I bought a new vacuum recently, but can't use it as it scares the s*** out of Pumpkin. Keep trying to find a time when husband takes him outside, or I get home earlier than they do to vacuum, but I've only managed to do the house once in about 2 months... and that's not much considering it's only two rooms, two staircases and the basement. And as the weather gets worse and we don't go out after dinner since it's already dark, or getting there, I'm running low on time to vacuum. Would have husband do it on days when he's home without us, but he considers vacuuming a fate worse than death...and he does all the mowing and the majority of the outdoor labor, so I'm willing to let it go...

oh well...will have to have some Oktoberfest beer and ponder the solution to this problem ala Shapley's 9/29 poem post.

No, just those are the only places with carpet. Pumpkin enjoys sweeping, so the other areas get cleaned pretty regularly and don't really need vacuuming. We tore up the miles and miles of yellow shag when we moved in...

Ah, but if anyone knows of a nice castle for sale....

I thought was what you meant, but I couldn't resist.

When we built our new house a few years ago, we decided not to have any carpet. We have laminate floors all through the house, and we love it. My stepson, who used to be hospitalized two or three times a year with breathing problems, has not had to be hospitalized but a couple of times in the more-than-five years since we've moved.

Altoid likes to carry water around. She's carried the cat's bowl from the back to the front of the house (all carpet), spilling only when she gets to the living room. She's carried water in a pail in from the garden - spilling in the living room. She carried her g'ma's cat's water dish, spilled it in the kitchen and slipped on the wet tile. Yesterday she thoughtfully brought her daddy and her brother Beemer each a nice scoop of mud to play with...in the living room. That room & the hall have been destined for laminate or hardwood floors from the get-go. I can tell that the Altoid supports that decision.

Nothing on tap, but a good variety in cold bottles! MGD for thirst quenching, Bitburger Pils for the taste, and Sierra Nevada Porter when I want to chew my beer.

"She never gives solos to an alto. That piece ranges from A - D, thats an ALTO solo!!!

(and just to mess up my streak of 10 years of accurate whining, she has a song for this season that is 70% alto solo and she plans to give it to an alto. But not to get too excited. I expect our mezzo baby sitter will get it instead.)

Eureka! I have found it! Brahms "Alto Rhapsody", on a CD no less. Sung by Marilyn Horne, who is described on the endnotes as a Mezzo-Soprano.

Go figure.
