I cant beleive That Samuel Smith has not been mentioned. They have a variety of brews from Pale ales to Imperial Stouts, and if you ever get a chance to try one of their bitters from a cask(sp) it is GREAT. Also a lot of Vermont microbrews are very good, as well as one that I remember from Colorodo called Fat Tire that was very tasty as well. I could go on for ever. O Director's bitter is very good as well.

I agree with Barfle on Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada; I've had their Ale but not their Porter. I'll look for it, as well as for the Heineken Manoure (is this the French spelling?).

Manouver (word of the day).

A woman orders a chicken sandwich and starts to choke. People are running frantically, trying to figure what to do. Two lovers sitting in the corner whisper to each other and run in front of the choking lady. One drops the overalls while the other proceeds to lick the other's behind.

Upon seeing this, the lady vomits, forcing the lodged food from her throat. After making sure the lady is OK, the two lovers return to their table. One turns to the other and says, "Wow, that hind-lick MANOUVER really works!"

I've never heard of Urbock. I'll look for it next time I'm up in BC. Yeah, I have had the usual Canadian beers (Labatt's, Molsons) and they aren't too bad. When I was up skiing in Canada a few years ago I discovered Harp. It's pretty good. I didn't check, but it's probably made in Canada too--even though it claims to be Irish.

Speaking of foreign beer, I once bought some Japanese beer in very tiny cans. I think they were 4-5 oz things. Miniscule. But good beer. I don't remember the name now. I felt like an idiot buying them, but they were a good novelty. I haven't seen 'em around in years. You never have to worry about a beer going flat in those tiny cans.

Anybody like wine? Just kidding.

That's why I prefer "Beer Appreciation Month" over "Wine Appreciation Month," no spitting!

Urbock is from Ontario - might not find it in B.C. and it only shows up in the Winter... I don't know of many Canadians who choose to drink Labatt's or Molsons, actually. Too many other Breweries... Sleemans, Steam Whistle, Mill Street (Organic beer brewed Mill Street Brewery in The Distillery District of Toronto). Distillery District has art galleries, restaurants, jazz clubs, theatre.. beautiful area in Toronto, movie Chicago was filmed there as was Ron Howard's new film with Russell Crowe about a boxer.. can't remember the name.

Yes to wine. Buy it by the caseload...

I thought you meant Heineken Manure, which I wasn't familiar with. I've heard of Holstein Manure, but I wasn't going to touch that one.

BC? How about Tree Brewery in Kelowna, if they're still around.

Worst beer? Hanley's (89 cents a 6-pack when I was in college) was the only beer worse than Red, White and Blue (which was PBR seconds).

Worst: Mickey's Big Mouth Ale
Almost no carbonation. They must have let it sit in open vats to lose all the fizz. Tasted like it too.

I've had that!......that's about all I remember about it....

I love Pete's Wicked Ale!

I tried brewing my own beer once upon a time when someone gave me the cheap Walmart brew machine kit. Come to think of it...the worst beer I've ever had was my first brewing attempt! The instructions said to sanitize the container with bleach and that was what my first brew tasted like. Too much trouble and not that inexpensive. I would rather pay.

I propose a toast!

May each of us actually do something, anything, in the coming days to make our world a more peaceful place.
May each of us replace our scorn with kindness, just once.
May each of us be open to the kindness shown by others.

And may you be in Heaven before the Devil knows you're gone.

Cheers!

There is nothing like a tall cold Old Milwaukee tall boys to end a horrible workday at your Wal-Mart. Personally I love Guinness and Sam Adams. Bass's Pale Ale is alright. Sapporo, Japanese beer that comes in 22oz bottles. Also Abita Springs beer from down in LA, the state not the city. By far my favorite is Wild Turkey 101, plain bourbon or rye whiskey, and Scotch. I haven't met a Scotch I didn't like. I also love vodka, not all brands. Belvedere is good, Stolichnya, I will go out on a limb and say Grey Goose also. But I mainly drink WT and Scotch.

The big question is...what kind of classical music do you listen to when drinking WT and/or scotch? What goes with what? I've tried, but I never acquired much of a taste for hard liquor. Whiskey especially. An occasional gin and tonic is pretty good. It goes well with opera.

Beer? Definitely Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann.

Wine? I only like red wine. That goes with Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Mahler.

I'm being facetious, of course.

Eggnog with Chivas. Bach's Christmas Oratorio.

Glüg with Handel's Messiah.

Martinelli's and brandy with carols.

Hot aquavit punch for singing carols.

Bluegrass, classic or otherwise, goes with fresh white lightnin', Charlie Daniels goes with Bourbon. Nothing goes successfully with gin or beer. (Beer is for batter, or for boiling shrimps or brats. I know of no use for gin.)

I'd like to point out that the above reflects my personal taste and that all other individuals are welcome to be wrong, just as much as they like. :D
