Well, it was said many, many years ago that you could drop dead on a NY street or in the subway and nobody would notice.
But that was also said of London gentlemen's clubs in St. James's and The Mall...
(Just reading about them in Thackeray's The Book of Snobs.)

[qb]Eugene Reilly, 64, of Brooklyn, a U.S. Postal Service employee, was discovered Thursday at 7:11 a.m., .....

Reilly typically worked a 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. shift as a mail handler at the Morgan Processing and Distribution Center, just a short walk from the Q train stop at 34th Street.[qb]
Got on the train ~ 12:45 am.... found at 7:11.

I dont know NYC, but 7 am is pretty early in the San Diego rush hour, which runs from ~7:30-9 am,

Piq,

I know the "N" train... Was one of my legs from Queens into Manhattan when I was going to High School.

It runs from Brooklyn, through Manhattan , then into Astoria Queens.....

The last cars are usually empty, especially at
12:45AM.....

At 7AM there are enough people to have noticed something was wrong and call the appropriate
authorities.

If anyone saw him in the middle of the night they probably thought he was sleeping.

Maybe,

"Don't slip on the subway, darling..."?

"Don't sneeze on the subway, darling..."?

Every Saturday I get by e-mail some items from a site called 'This is True'. Here's a sample:

SURE, THIS MAKES SENSE: A student at McHenry (Ill.) Community High School
has been disciplined after "doodling" in his own notebook. His drawing features the initials "D.L.K." which, school officials told his mother,
"could" mean "Disciples Latin King" -- the Latin Kings and the Latin Disciples are two rival gangs. His mother says he's not a member of any gang. But under the school's zero tolerance rules about gang activity, the boy was suspended, and the school board voted unanimously to expel Derek Leon Kelly from any state-funded school for the rest of the school year, rejecting his explanation that the initials he drew are simply his own. (Chicago Tribune) ...Leaving him nothing to do but join
a gang.

This is true is put together by a fellow named Randy Cassingham. The site url is http://www.thisistrue.com

Why do they need to postulate vents and core heating when it has been known for decades (and probably centuries) that ice melts under pressure?

collecting

” Collecting things, once a big part of childhood, is now pretty much passé with kids. Preoccupied with MP3 players and computer games, they are rarely found sitting at the kitchen table putting postage stamps into collectors' books or slipping old coins into plastic sleeves. These days, baseball cards and comic books are collected by adults. Of the estimated 37 million Americans who identified themselves as collectors in 2000, just 11% were under the age of 36, according to a study by marketing consultant Unity Marketing Inc. Most were over 50.“

My old fountain pens, stamps; Sharon’s lladros….kind of sad to think the kids will sell them off. Maybe I’ll do it first and spend the damn cash before they can get their hands on it!!!!!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I've been away the past few weeks...
Been a tough stretch...

My Boss went on vacation last week and I was in charge... (that started all the fun)
I had 2 managers out who I also had to cover for... Working 12-15 hours a day...
He was supposed to be back Monday but has been out sick with the flu all week..... Still in charge :)

Then found out one of the pastors at my church..
His wife passed away.... Family Requested that I play the funeral..... Did that.....
Came into work the next day to find out my friends 18 year old daughter was killed in a car crash... have to go to the wake today or tomorrow(Driver was drunk and had a suspended license) They had NO SEAT BELTS on....

My dad had to go through a procedure yesterday to determine if he needed bypass surgery, stent, or an angioplasty (spelling?)

Thanks god he needs none of those and the cardiologist advised they can control his problem through medication and monitoring....

I'm flying to Augusta, Georgia next Wednesday
to spend some time down there and assist.

DEEP BREATH>>>>>>>

Sorry for venting... Just been a whirlwind of
stuff going on.....

I'm at the age where I'm pondering who ought to get the stuff I can't take with me, and probably one of my most prized posessions is my record collection. I don't have any kids, so the closest thing I have to heirs is my sister's kids, who couldn't care less about it. There's some killer stuff in there, but you really have to be a vinyl junkie to give a damn about most of it.

I've already started selling off my stamp and coin collections, having discovered that they were more work than they were fun, unlike the glorious 20-minute stretches of listening to an LP.

TM, hope you get a chance to inhale soon. Way too much tragedy, and to have it piled up like that can be overwhelming.

TM,

Sorry to hear that things have been so bad lately. Hopefully things will perk up soon.

Haggis, RE: Collecting. I know I still have a house full of Pokemon cards that my son collected for a while, and there seems to be a rampant business in the trading card industry: Pokemon, Magic, U-Gi-Oh, etc. IMHO, adults are taking a lot of the fun out of the trading and collecting of such things. Many parents try to put too much control on their sons transactions, always afraid they'll get 'taken' on a trade. They will, once in a while, but it's part of the learning process.

I have over 35,000 baseball cards. I gave up collecting them when the industry became a grand, cynical exercise in maximizing the removal of cash from the collector's pockets. (Kinda like Pokemon and the other kids cards today.) Plus I stopped following baseball when my life became too busy. I have stamps and coins from when I was a kid too. Nothing too extensive or valuable. My kids haven't shown any interest in any of this but it is early. I once read that every 8-year-old gets the collecting bug for something, it just depends how it is nurtured if it becomes a lifelong obsession.

Been there.

TM, sounds like you're just barely managing to keep up with all this. Keep on breathing, this too shall pass.

Sounds like your dad dodged the bullet. Monitoring and medication sounds good! I'm sure they'll appreciate the visit, though - and it'll be good for you too.
