No worries here. I'll just be at the dining room table pursuing my newfound hobby of shotgun cleaning when the date arrives to pick her up. Of course, he/she has to actually come in to pick her up, or the date doesn't happen. No honking at the curb.

Must be more of that linear thought process....

As a backup, I can always pull out the photos we took of Altoid's first diaper change(and a messy one, at that) in the back of the car to show her soon-to-be-former date.

;)

OT,

Honking at the curb? By 2021, her date will just page her on her communicator, and she will teleport to her selected date location. I'm sure some new rules of teleport etiquette will be in place, and I'm sure the teens of 2021 will ignore them.

Then I'll have to invent parental teleport blocking, won't I?

;)

Will grounding include confiscation of all of her electronic computing and communication devices?

I heard, I think it's Verizon, has come out with a special cell phone for kids that can only dial out to selected parentally programmed numbers, but can receive any call.

Not much to remember there. I was pathetically good and obedient as a kid. If she takes after me, I've got nothin' to worry about. For her sake, I hope she doesn't....

The worst thing I did was disassemble the player piano my parents got while I was in high school, just a couple of weeks after we got it. (Incindentally, it is the same piano that presently sits in our living room.) At the time, we had it in a family room adjacent to the living room, and there was a door between the rooms. I had closed it, played for a little while, then got fascinated with how the thing worked, started tinkering, and the next thing I knew I had stripped it down to the empty keybed and strings. My dad, after not hearing any noise for a couple hours, got curious and peeked in at just about the worst possible time - I had pieces spread all over the floor(neatly, mind you). Keep in mind we were relatively poor, so this piano was a huge outlay for my parents. My father very calmly said, "For your sake, I hope you can get that thing put back together" and closed the door. My self preservation instinct kicked into high gear at that point and I reassembled it with no parts left over.

That piano got me interested in working on pianos, and led me to apprentice the piano rebuilder.

I guess they wanted to keep me in the same time zone in case of an emergency. :(

Anyone out there have any suggestions, ideas?

Get thee to Shorty's BBQ on US-1...just south of Kendall Drive (SW 88 street).

And for my favorite pizza...Frankies Pizza on Bird Road (SW 40th street) and 92 avenue. It's a local landmark and take-out only. Say "Hi" to Roxanne for me.

Regards,
Tim B.

Try pm'ing GC. He knows the area well.

I lived on Miami Beach for a year. Go to the News Cafe for breakfast and young model watching.
Next door to the News Cafe, on the roof of the building, is a "hot" bar. It opened after I moved back here. My co-workers said it was great (I was there as part of a three year project. We got rotated on and off).

Of course, hook up with some marketing/sales types, and go to Joe's Stone Crab. Medium claws are considered the best value for the money, but there's something fun in the the jumbos.... And the waiters are a hoot.

Classic Cuban, and political discussion center of Miami = .....OH HECK! It will come to me.
I never ate bad cuban food tho. So stop in at any little cuban joint and chow down.

Lincoln Rd on Miami Beach is a pedestrian mall. good trendy food there.

Piq,
Sounds good... Thanks,

Well it's 11:30PM EST... I should be fast asleep now BUT the "No Brainer" deployment from last night f'd up royally and I was told I must be
onsite for tonights system fix.

In a nutshell.... There's a table that's used here that is fixed length.... it was moved and changed to a variable length table....It should not have been changed to variable.....

Well the apps that use this table look for the fixed values... if there are only 3 characters and its a 10 max field the program assumes 7 blank spaces....

I can't tell you all the hell I've been through today...

I don't know how many VPs shoved the pole up my behind then twisted it to have some fun.

I worked 13 hours straight today... went home for a few hours and now I'm back here

Well....That's why god made Martini's and Hand Grenades
;)

And Chocolate and Ice cream.

I'll bet you have a few choice words for whichever programmer changed the field definition without considering all the programs that use that data field. :sympathy:

Problem is nothing was supposed to change....

When they told me they added a new view in production over the table this morning I was shocked.... That's why when I was asked about
testing I looked..... well lets not say stupid..

So far I like all the Miami Beach suggestions you've received. It would help to better know your tastes in food etc. Don't miss at least trying some of the Cuban food. If you are a coffee lover many places will sell you cafe cubano that comes in the cups the dentist gives you to rinse out your mouth. There's a reason the dose is small. It's also served very sweet. I'd add Christy's (sp) in Coral Gables if you are a steak or prime rib lover. The old rule was it was either a great steak house or a great rib house, you can't do both well. Christy's disproves this rule. Many of the places I liked were family owned and have disappeared since I lived in Miami, my barbecue recommendations are long gone, for example. For pizza I liked Miami's Best which is right across US1 from the campus of the University of Miami. Piq and treebeau's recommendations will serve you well and all the new stuff on the Beach probably has produced wonders untasted by me.

I was a big fan of Sunday buffet brunches and Miami had these in abundance and many offered excellent fare. If that is a treat for you see if the Grand Bay hotel in Coconut Grove still offers theirs...It was the jewel in the crown....

TM:

off the beaten path -- a few years ago,,, the River Oyster Bar and nearby Tobacco Road nightclub, over in old downtown Miami, were trendy. You might ask the concierge if they're still okay. I'd take a cab.

If you're into european castles, check out Vizcaya - Deering's mansion built around WW1 right on Biscayne Bay and now a county museum. Good for a day trip, and not far from Coconut Grove.

If you get to the Keys, Islamorada Fish Company is fun. You eat outdoors on the dock. About sundown they feed the kitchen scraps to neighborhood tarpons and sharks. About mile marker 80.

But there's plenty to do on Miami Beach, i'm sure.

I proposed to my now-ex-wife at Christy's. But I can't hold that against them. The food was good. :)
