Shos,

Did the composer of Ballet X start his career as an accompanist and chorus master and also spend time as an organist?

Hi Big. Very famous.

Hi TM. A quick check of my ancient encyclopedias shows that he studied organ and attended the Scuola Cantorum, so you may be onto something. He was a seaman early on, and came to serious music study in his mid 20s.

Shos
I think he was an officer rather than a seaman (if memory serves correctly). Also, I believe he served in the First World War, but not in the navy.

I just checked my 2 ancient encyclopedias. One says "midshipman", the other "ensign". My beautiful, new, but short encyclopedia excludes our guy. My recordings of Ballets X and Y give no biographical info. Other recordings that I have also ignore his bio. I had to resort to an old 6-page bio that I rarely reference. This was the only one to mention WWI service (ambulance, motor transport).

I don't know why I bothered. Bones's research always proves correct.

I think one could unravel the mystery of where, and rustle up the answers, if one thought it were a matter of life and death.

It's not?

As to where Shos posted them, it would be in one of his political threads he started recently, can't remember which one.

Guess you'll just have to painstakingly reread them all...

:p

PS. Selma, I dumped some of the clutter.

I remember burying it near the end of some post --- just as a test of who bothers to read them. And the winner is -------- OT. My sympathies.

Anyway, X is The Spider's Feast. Y is Bacchus et Ariane, both by Albert Roussel. Z is Daphnis and Chloe by Ravel.

Well, I'll admit that I didn't read the 'thoughts about death thread'. I did read the first post, but decided I had already added my thoughts about death in another thread, so I treaded no further through the thread of death.
