A Recommendation

Vanguard 99095. Weber's Konzertstuck, Chopin's Krakowiak, Mendelssohn's Cappriccio Brilliant and Rondo Brilliant.

These are not often heard on radio, so there's little chance of overdosing on them. They all have melody, charm, and sufficient gusto to please. I consider them all underappreciated.

The performances by Robert Groselot (pianist-conductor) and Il Novecento are fully satisfying to me. I never heard of them before.

If Thalberg still visits the BBB, perhaps he can comment on the music or the performers.

The Weber is program music. good typical early-romantic music. it's very colorful and lively, I have it with Pletnev and the Russian National Orchestra, excellent performance.
I like the Chopin, but only heard it on the radio. abominable orchestration, glittering mazurka-ish piano (but more virtuosic than the solo mazurkas). I don't remember the performance.
