Wikipedia is right. NDR stands for Nord Deutsch Radio. Gunter Wand has a good reputation. He's not too well known in the USA.

he's not well-known for his mozart either. he's a Wagner, Bruckner, Beethoven type.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/102-5480444-5966564?%5Fencoding=UTF8&dym=0&search-type=ss&index=classical&field-keywords=amadis&page=1

Following that link will show you some of the best bargains for some really great classical music. All of the CD's in this link are under the Amadis label (branch of Naxos) and are $2.98 per CD! I mean, I bought almost all of these, able to hear some actually well performed piano pieces and works that I've never heard before. For instance, Ethella Chuprik leads the Amadis piano recording banner, and has played one of the best versions of Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No. 1 I've ever heard. All the big guys like Bolet, Brendel and Arrau aren't worth it after her performance. She also does some excellent Beethoven renditions of PS 17, 26 and 31.

Additionally, the Amadis label gives rare works from Vivaldi, Rachmaninoff, Mozart, and Bach. I mean, I even got to hear Rubinstein Piano Concerto's that I had never heard before. The actual recording quality is just fine and I've never regarded them negatively. There may be some disagreements over interpretations, but overall, what you get for the extraordinary low price is just unbeatable.

Hi Navneeth, If you are looking for Tchaikovsky's music, try to get his works conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov.
