Renewed "Top Ten" polls ?

Postby Catmando » Thu Apr 20, 2006 12:25 pm

Will there be new lists for BBB members to vote for various "Top 10" listings? ie. T10 concertos, operas, sonatas, composers, etc?

Just curious! :)

Probably not. We've all benn waiting around for Hal to come back, and we don't have enough motivation to take over the project............

I think HAL's been unplugged. I've not seen Dave around for some time, either...

Daaaaiiiisssy, Daaaaiiisssy!

Well, I might have enough motivation to start it up again. However, it will have to wait a little. I'm moving into a new apartment in May so I'll also be unplugged for awhile.

I propose we try and revive Hal 9000's Top Tens. Here is the list of potential topics below, with the bold being topics with Top Tens already compiled.

I don't mind being responsible for organizing and taking charge of some of the Top Tens, but perhaps with a few partners that I could switch off with? *ignaf, are you interested? Any others?

Should I PM HAL to get permission?

Ray

Top Ten Thievery!

Postby hal 9000 » Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:23 pm

WHAT'S THIS! USURPING MY TOP TEN THREAD!?! HOLY JUDAS, BRUTUS, AND BENEDICT ARNOLD!

:P

jk

Hi gang,

Just wanted to drop in and say that I have not disappeared. I still listen to BR everyday at work, I just do not have the time anymore to frequent the BBB like I used to. But I am still out there listening.

I got the PM from Catmando today regarding the Top Ten Threads and list of topics. You need not ask permission to use the Top Ten thread idea, nor do you need to ask permission to use the topics. As you may notice in the topic list, there are various BBB usernames in parenthesis next to each topic. The person whose name appears next to the topic idea is the person that came up with that topic. The Top Ten thread does not belong to me, it belongs to the BBB. I merely orchestrated the event in the past. And I would continue to do so if I had the time.

My freetime is now taken up by a monthly online MIDI music contest, to which I submit compositions, review compostions, and organize monthly online conferences to discuss the results with other reviewers. So that is where I have been for the past 9 months. It is a very addictive hobby for an amateur composer such as myself. And there is some really good music submitted to that site (downside: there is some really bad stuff too :? ). If any of you compose to MIDI and would like to check it out, let me know via PM and I'll give you the info.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and give my blessing to anyone who would like to take the helm of the Top Ten thread. If you like, I will send the Excel worksheet template I used to compile the data and explain the process I used to any that wish to run it. But be warned, it is a time consuming process. If you want to take the helm, you should know that it will require a bit of your time to do it.

Cheers.

Great to hear from you Hal !

This is Brutus here!

We wish you were active here on the BBB. Thank you for posting back.

Make sure you keep in touch with us on a regular basis, and let us know how you are doing with the MIDI contests.

I'm fairly proficient with Excel, so if you could send me the template you are offering, that would be fantastic! :)

I know I probably won't have the time to do the Top Tens all the time, but hopefully now and then others will chip in. Or, even better, HAL 9000 will be plugged in 24/7!

Thanks again Hal! Keep coming back and posting!
