Beating a Dead Horse Dept: I have a final (but good) suggestion to all of you out there who are still resisting the Stravinsky 'force.' Instead of the 'Rite of Spring,' try listening to his "Petrouchka" first. It's similar in style but not in flavor. It has some great Russian folksiness. You may find it less opprobrious (now THERE'S a word for you Audiogirl!) than the darker 'Rite.'
I agree about Beethoven's 5th too...I always skip the first movement.
I don't have a least favorite composer, but for some reason I just can't stand any sort of classical guitar music.

Sorry, everyone. I'm having a hard time with this. Mostly, I just like it all. The other problem is, I change my mind every week or so. For instance, lately, I have been stuck on Handel, whereas a couple of weeks ago I was into Sibelius, Smetana and Grieg.
I can say that my favorite period is the Romantic.
Favorite composer would have to be Beethoven.
Favorite symphony -- his 9th. There is none like it, as David said about Goliath's sword.
Favorite violin concerto -- I waiver between Bruch and Mendelsohn.
Favorite piano concerto is probably Rachmaninoff's No.1. Of course then there is Tchaikovsky's . . . Hard decision. Probably the latter, then, I guess.
Favorite driving music this week are Handel's organ concertos, particularly the Andante from the G-minor. Can somebody tell me if that is one and the same as the 3rd organ concerto of Handel? The nice thing is it is harmonious with the rumble of the 454.
Favorite piece of all -- this is going to sound odd -- Grieg's Peer Gynt Sweet.
Favorite worship music -- Handel's Messiah. Hadyn's Creation isn't as great, but it is great.
I don't have a favorite Bach organ work, but I wish I did.
Oh yes, and my least favorite composer? Me.
