Welcome back, Hal! :)

I know who the composer is, but I haven't figured out the piece.

Hello Hal,
I'm Navneeth from India. Been here for about a month and a half. I've gone through some of your 'Top Ten' threads, but could you please tell me more about Opus X.

Thanks,
Navneeth

The picture represents the name of a composer and a composition. It's tricky, but as various smart people close in on the answer there will be more and more clues posted on the thread. You send your guess, or questions, to Hal by private message, not by posting openly on the thread, because if you get it right and post the answer it spoils the puzzle for anyone who is close to figuring it out.

The guessing can go wildly astray, as the time that I was sure that the Queen Bohemian Rhapsody had to be involved in an answer because of pictures of Death and a cell in the clues, from which I got "cell death", proceeding to apoptosis, AIDS, and thence to Freddie Mercury. Turned out the correct answer was Purcell's Dido and Aeneus; I was SO wrong. :(

Good luck. So far, I've got Digital Coyote singing Sony's Panasonic...

Thanks, Selma. It must be an art to select a picture representing both the composer and the composition. Probably figuring out the answer is also an art, with a picture such as the current one. I'm going to PM Hal just for the heck of it. :D

navneeth's Opus X guess

Postby hal 9000 » Sun Apr 30, 2006 2:00 pm

Greetings navneeth!

Pleased to meet you. I received your PM guess but for some reason the phpp system won't let me reply to it (it says I can not reply so soon after I post, but I had posted nothing?!?). Anyway, hopefully it will allow me to post my reply on the normal board.

Your guess was incorrect. You must really examine the picture for clues and you will find there are some that are literal and some that are not so literal. I have given clues regarding both the composer and the composition. Keep at it.

We're doing really well, thanks for asking.

Did you get a pm from me?

Everyone's getting that "error" message when they send a pm, so it's hard to tell if they're actually going out.

Cheapness

Postby hal 9000 » Tue May 02, 2006 6:20 pm

Well consider this: Every Opus X so far has been madness, but there is always method to it. So it stands to reason that any patterns that appear in a puzzle have some significance. Of course, that significance may be to throw you off the trail. Or perhaps it keeps you on the straight and narrow. Regardless, it means something even if it means nothing.

Literal Translation: Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.
