#4 is it before 1800? No.

#5 is the composer from Western Europe? Yes.

#5.5 Did the composer play soccer as a kid? Probably.

#6 Does the piece have more than one movement/section/act? Yes.

#7 Was the composition after 1850? Yes.

#8 Could the composer be Russian? No.

#9 Are we talking about an opera? Yes.

#10 French composer? Yes.

#11 Is the work biblical? No.

#11.5 Has a suite from this opera been stuck on the Music log for the past week or so due to the system problems BR is currenlty experiencing? I don't think so. Not from my reading of the log up to 30th May, anyway.

#12 is the work set in Spain? Yes.

Since we had a Saint-Saens kick recently, could it be an opera by him?

The work is set in Spain. Shall we be Seville about this? Is there corporal punishment in the opera?

My Guess

Postby hal 9000 » Sun Jun 04, 2006 6:53 pm

Oops, I did not mean the Music Log... I meant the now playing window in Windows Media Player... and the piece that has been displayed there for the last week or so is Bizet's Carmen Suite No. 1.. so my guess is this... Is the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet?

Seems to fit... French composer, set in Spain, fairly straightforward choice like you'd mention it would be...

TA-DAH!!!!!!

By Georges he's got it!

I guess the corporal does get punished, and pretty severely too, Shos. However, we'll keep it Seville & carry on to the arena to tackle the next round. No bull!

It was clear that Shos was on to the answer, but Hal "scooped" him within a half hour. And Shos' favorite opera too !!

Good to know. You're the only person on the "Are You Dead?" list, so I think it's the list that's a dead issue. And now that we're PM-less it's really hard to check.

I was beginning to wonder if the opus was a Bizet, but was leaning to "Pearl Fishers". That was, of course, sometime yesterday. Congratulations, Hal!!

That is slander, sir! I'm libel to answer this impunity! Pistols at dawn! :P

Shos was not 'scooped', Carmen was what I had in mind when I made my first post.
