The "Romance" Languages are French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and Romanian... probably I should include Flemish as well. They are those most easily traced back to Latin. Wikipedia does a good job here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romance_languages

Definitely not Flemish, which is almost identical to Dutch (from which Afrikaans developed), belonging to the same family as German, English, and the Scandinavian languages.
Yes there is a local Belgian dialect of French.

I guess also that Rumantsch (Reto-romanic) is also a Romance language. but i don't know any vocal piece in that language.

Is the composition from the Baroque era? If you need numbers consider 1600-1750.

Is the composer a Scandalhoovian? Ah, Scandinavian. You know, Finn, Swede, Norski, Dane, Icelander, Minnesotan? Ah, no, strike Minnesotan. Wrong side of pond.

From my one year of Latin in the 9th grade in a previous century, the reason they're called "Romance" languages is because they are based on the language of Rome, which was Latin.

I could cite Spanish, French, and Italian as being Romance languages. I'll take GC's word on the Flemish, Romanian, and others.

Is it in a 'modern' language? (one still spoken today, by other than academics and school kids?)

Or

is it hungarian?

You can choose which one to answer. My post count is high enough I dont need to do these one at a time. :P
