Visualizations and Classical music

Postby BenODen » Mon Jun 12, 2006 8:16 pm

WOOT! I was listening to Beethovens' Serenade for flute, clarinet and guitar, Op. 8 on b.com and was playing with skins in WMP. It landed me on a fairly uninteresing visualization, but I have to say that the fire storm or ocean waves visualization (under bars and waves) is really mesmorizing. You can see the individual notes of the flute and clarinet dance around. Very cool.

So, when you have some time to dither, try some visualizations, on a song with only a handful of instruments. There are some ho hum ones, but some will knock your socks off, I think. :D

Totally, that's very nice.. It seems like it picks good places to transition patterns. When the music changes texture, it seems like the visualization pattern does too. And they're very pleasing patterns too.

But then I dont' get now playing if I watch that! Hmm, I'll have to figure that out.

That's my favorite to, but I generally leave the now playing window up.

Try the fire fountain visualization, on any piece with lots of percussion. :wow:

I'm not sure I mentioned this in the old "gadgets" thread from a year or two ago, but I have a box at home by Atari called "Video Music." It takes in an audio signal and creates video patterns on the screen.

It's pretty cool, especially if there's a heavy bass line like in disco.

I've seen a few deliberate attempts at providing visuals to classical music. I think Maurice Petipa did it best.
