Since several continents have been eliminated, what we have left are Africa, India, and Australia (including New Zealand and Tasmania). Is that correct? The number of 19th C classical composers from those continents are few and far between.

Wait a minute! I thought Eastern hemisphere included everything east of London (roughly), all of Asia and the South Pacific ..."not Western Europe" would exclude the United Kingdom and the Iberian peninsula. Non-American would exclude USA or are you excluding all of North America?

The only thing not excluded is the Northwestern coast of Africa and Central America (technically).

Is this an other-worldly composer?

Ignore the hemisphere...the composer isn't Oriental....I think the composer's music is 'out of this world' but that is a value judgment rather than a geographic statement....

Btw...'Western Europe' as I understand the term includes the Iberian Peninsula, the British Isles and Iceland

I'm not charging you because Portuguese was ruled out by my saying no to western European birth... :x :P

All of these would be covered under the term 'Oriental'.

That's what I presumed too when I asked the question. Great minds think alike, I suppose. :)

Nor do I....Fantaisie-Impromptu is a lovely piece....but not the subject of this inquiry....

It could be a chocolate cigar....or a bubblegum cigar if you prefer?

If guesses count as questions then this is 19....
