no, I didn't have this in mind. this was tough. I don't know the piece. what I had in mind was something based on a 16th century tune.

It sounded familiar when I heard it for the first time (especially the third movement...sounds a bit baroquish to my ears). I might have seen the commercials, but don't distincltly remember the tune. The album came out in the mid 90's.

Just search through the archives and you will get some interesting insights into the nature of this piece from barfle IIRC.

Thanks! I knew I was getting close, but I haven't been keeping track this week. I found out yesterday that my contract is not getting renewed, so this log-in name will probably go dark in the near future unless I can get it transferred to my Gmail account. I may have lots of time to research a 30Q then. <sardonic grin>

You can change your email address in your beethoven account, but it's a pain. There was some kind of email message to be sent to the new address, and in the meantime you are locked out. Only tried it once, when they stopped giving away free email accounts.

I first heard Palladio on an airplane during those days when I was often on the road 45 days in a month. I wrote it down in my notebook as something to look for, and I would guess it was a year later that I found the note and ordered the CD.

Then, I recognized it from the commercial.

That explains the signature: "12 foot lizard". I never knew that the term alligator was an anglicized version of the Spanish "el lagarto" (the lizard).

Huh! There was a link to a BBC News story from 2000 stating that someone had wondered why crocodiles' wounds don't seem to get infected, which led to an investigation and discovery of a novel anti-microbial peptide (a string of amino acids) that seemed to kill virulent bacteria. I gotta follow up on this stuff.

Oh yeah, the etymology, from two greek words - one for "pebble" and the other for "circumcised man or worm".
