Hey, GC, I just PMed you, but I'm not sure it went through. I'm guessing that X had a composer sister who was sickly and died young.

Sorry to have neglected this....there's been one correct solver...there are many clues....anyone still interested in attempting it or do I reveal 'X'?

X was the German master pianist, Wilhelm Kempff I commend any of his recordings to you, the ones I'm familiar with are all masterpieces of understatement and allowing the music to speak for itself.

Erk!!! It's not as if I don't know about Wilhelm Kempff. I'd picked up the reference to Turkey, and that the subject was a pianist, but that was all.

dai for some reason I thought of you as more of an orchestral fan than solo instrument. Of course that doesn't mean one wouldn't know of a great master performer like Kempff. I didn't know of his composing until I did a little research. His compositions are rather obscure although Idil Biret covers a couple.
