Why are we celebrating Groundhog Day with so many versions of the Gloria this morning?

BTW, from what I've read, it'll be six more weeks of Winter. The groundhog hath spoken...

As they say - the most pampered Groundhog in the world...I think he can handle the 15 min of stress once a year. Sheesh! don't get me started on PETA....

we live in the north, don't matter what the groundhog say - we ALWAYS have 6 more weeks of winter. Usually get our biggest snow dumps in Feb. oh, well.

And, on topic, Bach's Toccata and Fugue for Bach's lunch was keeping me awake! :D

Whoever wrote that has little sense of history:

The tradition, made famous in the 1983 Bill Murray comedy "Groundhog Day," requires the marmot to be awakened from hibernation on February 2.

Punxsutawney Phil has been making predictions for 120 years (obviously not the same animal all that time...). The film was made because the tradition was famous, the tradition did not become famous because the film was made....

B.com has played it several times. It's alright, IMHO, but not one of my favourite works. You can request it, I know they have it in the library.

I have a copy of it at home. A nice piece, with narration that tells of the woes of the Scott expedition to the land. Big music that tries to capture the sweeping grandure of Antartica in its majesty, solitude, and hostility.

...and very largely succeeds. Vaughan Williams compiled it from music he wrote for the film "Scott of the Antarctic". Google tells me there are a couple of other "Antarctic" symphonies", but the one I know is the VW.

John Wallace's performance of the Neruda Trumpet Concert in Eb is absolutely beautiful!

Such a pretty tone in the 2nd movement!

Thanks to whoever requested Copeland yesterday and today. Of course, with Rodeo playing, I'm thinking...'beef - it's what's for dinner' ... maybe I will cook up that flank steak tonight....

One of these days I've got to request some Bernstein - not today though - meeting 11-12, then class at 1:30...might not get it in while I'm in the office.
