I think there are 3 possible pieces. I'll dangerously guess: passacglia (on an old English Tune) for viola and piano.

Now, why did I choose this, you may ask. Remember these lines by Shapspeare? (Well, if you don't, check out 30Q #52.)

I thought he was giving us all a hint and searched for a piece that was dedicated to the composer's niece. What do you know? There was one, and it was none other than Pascaglia on an Old English Tune, by one Rebecca Clarke. But as it turned out, the composition in Shap's mind was from a totally different era.

You clearly read too much into that poem. I did say at the end that there were no clues hidden there. I only used composer's niece because it rhymed with piece.
