Danse Macabre for orchestra it is!

I recently bought a recording of it by Charles Dutoit and the Philharmonia Orchestra, which I enjoy.

It features a solo violin with its E-string tuned to an E-flat in an example of scordatura tuning ( I read that, I didn't know it until I researched the piece for this 30Q ). I just really liked the piece.

Also, no one did a Hallowe'en piece, so I thought I'd do one ex post facto.

it's also the earliest famous piece featuring the xylophone. the scordatura is east to hear, you can hear the sound of open strings, and you can hear it sounds much more dissonant than it should sound.

The xylophone is supposed to represent the sound of rattling bones, and the discordant violin represents the devil playing the danse of death.

Ah...that's one of my favourite pieces. It was aired on B.com in the Halloween special. I think SS used the xylophone in the Carnival of Animals, too, right?

Yes, and once for the same purpose - to represent bones. It was in the 'fossils' piece of the work, among other places.
