Question about the Music on Beethoven Radio

Postby classicalfan » Tue Jan 30, 2007 3:06 am

I have listened off and on to Beethoven Radio. Recently my listening has been more often than has been the case in the past.

I was wondering if Beethoven Radio plays mostly music from the Baroque period or gets into the many different periods of classical music. In other words, when listening to http://www.beethoven.com do we hear mostly well known works and composers or are unknown classical pieces also played?

Pretty much, they play what the listeners request. If there are a lot of baroque requests, expect to hear a lot of baroque music.

In my opinion, Beethoven Radio plays a wide variety, definitely a wider range than would many non-internet radio stations.

It's great, because you can request specific movements of a symphony or concerto or lesser known works and if they do have it they'll play it!

From Baroque till, say the first half of the twentieth century. Occasionally they also play more recent works, like Lang Lang's new CD, and of course, there are the movie soundtracks. But I feel that a lot of pieces are played too often, not just Bolero :P . And for composers like LvB, Mozart, Bach and Haydn who have many hundreds of compositions, I think only a fraction are aired often - these are the popular ones. I'd like the weekend specials to explore the unknown/rarely heard creations of these stalwarts.

Just My Humble and Crude Observations.

They play a fairly wide variety, even sometimes things they don't like. (Just listen to Nicole Marie appreciating Bolero, sometime...). They also play stuff I've never heard before. In my case, this has resulted in CD purchases and a whole box of CDs in my van.

At the very least, b.com is good "work" music. At the best, it's a source of amazing and entrancing mental videos. (Bolero...)
