I am looking for a nice relaxing, yet romantic Clasical music CD to play while entertaining guests. I'm looking for a CD (or CD's) that I can play all the way through without changing track, and that keep the same sort of mood.
Thanks

I'm not sure of any specific CDs but I'd suggest looking at your local record store under collections of music by Brahms, Schumann, or Schubert. If you like piano music, often the collections of Chopin piano works are nice.
Hope it gives you some ideas.

If it's romance you're looking for, you cannot go wrong choosing Claude Debussy.

Try Susan Graham's collection of songs by Reynaldo Hahn, "La Belle Epoque."

First, I'd like to say that I am a first-time visitor to your forum, and look forward to learning lots from this discourse!
Now, as far as recommendations go for nice relaxing classical music, you have a couple choices: choose a cd specifically compiled for quiet music, a disc a label may release touting "Adagios" or "Relaxing". You'll likely get a mix of composers and pieces from different performers, and it'll do nicely for entertaining, I'm sure.
If, however, you wish to seriously COLLECT relaxing music, you'll probably want to spend more time choosing specific discs by composer or artist, and that will involve a lot more research!! My feelings are that a lot of Chopin solo piano works well for your needs, as does many of Beethoven's slow movts in his sonatas. if we continue with B.. I find his symphonies nos. 4 and 8 would suit your tastes well. Lots of Mozart's work (divertimenti, sonatas, even symphonies...) are considered relaxing, as is a lot of Haydn. A good bet would be to ask your music retailer directly.

While chosing one composer will maintain the consistency of your background music (i.e. Mozart, Brahms etc), I suggest that you find one particular artist or favourite instrument so that you do get a variety styles. Some of my favourites for entertaining are Itzhak Perlmam, Yo-Yo Ma, and my Saxophone concertos (the latter b/c I'm a sax player). Another suggestion is a box set or multidisc collection of 'classical' music so if you have a 3+ CD player you can shuffle.
Good Luck,
Kylene

Engineer--
I suggest you check out Handel's Concerti Grossi, op.6, a three CD set. I think you'll find it to be just what the good doctor ordered.I have listened to the set hundreds of times and am yet to get sick of it. Your welcome!
