Recent Listening and Purchases....

Postby TJRDN » Sun Dec 29, 2002 7:41 am

This is a fairly popular topic at another board I inhabit. Just list the classical music you've been listening to and any music you've purchased recently. Let's see how many responses we can get. I'll get the ball rolling.
Listening: Dvorak's 6'th Symphony/Kertesz/London Symphony Orchestra
[ 12-29-2002: Message edited by: TJRDN ]

I was just listening to The King's Singers, A Little Christmas Music, recorded 1989. It's fun!
For Christmas, my precious wife bought me a CD of English miniatures by five or more composers, John Rutter heading the list. Thanks to Eric Michaels for this handy link which allowed my wife to make the purchase, Naxos' English String Miniatures.

I have most recently listened to Tchaikovsky:
Piano Concerto No. 1 & 2nd Symphony.
I don't remember who performed these pieces but I do know that it was an obscure Eastern European conductor and orchestra (budget label, of course). The performances are really good, however.
My latest purchase:
A collection of arias by Puccini, performed by various artists. Wonderful!

The last album that I bought was by a band called the Dandy Warhols, but I've been listening to a lot of Olivier Messiaen lately, namely the Quartet for the End of Time and Vignt Regards sur l'Enfant Jesus.

Hey thalberg can you lend me those discs? I should request some Mesiaen on B.radio. Vint Regard... is great. One of my favorite pieces of his (and also the quartet for end of time) I couldn't put them on my list of post-1950 music, though.
