Lost and Found

Postby JasonK » Tue Jan 09, 2001 9:14 am

Figured I would start a new string on this for tips on where to find artistic works, we will see if it works....
anyway, I am personnally looking to see if I can find a DVD or less preferred a VHS copy of a PBS documentary of the world's largest art museum.
It is close to a six hour work on the Hermitage, which can be found at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg....it is a wonderful presentation and documents the collection from Catherine the Great through the Czarist period and on through the Communist era to present day....They explain the history of gallery and piece throughout the museum. Many of the worlds famous originals can be found there. It is a fantastic production and I highly adivse it for any art lover.
I have been looking for it for years. PBS only says it is on backorder....So any hints will be appreciated.
Till I get there in person, the documentary will have to suffice.

Thanks for starting this new topic. I hadn't thought to do it myself, but I too am wanting to locate a video.
It is a short film, about 26 minutes or so, called "The Bolero" and features Zubin Mehta and an L.A. Symphony orchestra preparing to play Ravel's "Bolero".
The movie won an academy award for short film in 1973. I know I saw it once in Junior High school in about 1974 and again in high school about 1977. Back in those days one would see a movie on 16MM film.
I found a sight that distributes a VHS copy (http://www.pyramidmedia.com) but they want $195 for it. Can you say ouch !!
Anybody out there seen it/have access to a video copy from a school or library ?
Regards,
Tim B.
No I have not seen that feature, but as I have posted elsewhere, I would love to see that......I heard that song once and fell in Love with it....my Father had that very recording (i believe)......at any rate I know it was Mehta conducting.....simply outstanding........that would be a good film.....That price tag though.....that does hurt
Hail to the King Baby Image
[This message has been edited by Scotty (edited 01-09-2001).]

Hi Jason. I taped the PBS special on the Hermitage a few years ago. It's what you describe, only just 3 hours long.
Hi Treebeau. I also taped The Bolero off A&E a few years ago, although the film itself goes back a much longer way.
In case either of you would like a copy of my copy (both are in good shape, but Bolero contains an A&E commercial), contact me.
shostakovich@beethoven.com
