Need to pick yer brains

Hello to all! I am currently starting a new dance company and trying ot find different styles of music that suit our theme has been a Herculean task to say the least. To better help myself and my sanity I thought I would ask the expertise of those of you on here. I have two pieces that need some music, any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I am not necc. looking for symphonic pieces, those with fewer instruments would probably work better, but I'll take anything if it works. Please e-mail me at fbakhtar@ibisnet.net:<BR>1. ONe piece is about abortion, I need the piece to start out somewhat lilting and romantic and progresses into darker tones and ends on an ambiguous note (boy meets girl, girl gets pregant, boy leaves, abortion, death, end).<BR>2. There must be zillions of things that will work, but finding and matching ain't easy. Look at the first 10 minutes of the movie White Nights. Baryshnikov dances a little ballet called The Young Man and Death. That might work for one of your dances. Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin is about 30 min long. It has plenty of edge. Portions with a beat are less abundant. They are both ballets, though.<BR>Shos

Thanks!!!<P>Fadi 8{)</B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE><P>FosseA,<P>For your first dance thing, (the abortion one, I would reccomend doing excerpts from Bartok's Ballet The Wooden Prince. It starts out with a Prince spotting a girl, then as he tries to follow her to talk with her, he is barred by a guardian fairy who causes the trees and waves to try and block him. Once he finally gets past these, he tries to apeal to the princess by divesting himself of his hair and his crown and his robes in a show of devotion, but the fairy puts these onto a wooden puppet, which the princess then starts dancing with. You can probably cut off your excerpts at that point.<P>For the egomaniac one, I would reccomend either the 3rd movment of Mahler's 2nd Symphony or the Waltz #2 from Dimitri Shostokovitches Jazz Suite.<P>It might also be even better if you would comission a contemporary composer to write music specifically for these dance shows. Some good ones would be John Corigliano and Phillip Glass. Good luck.<P>Bob
