Dear Wolfie,
Sorry, but I didn`t have an address to forward a gift(!). Anyway, have a splendid 245th birthday. Ludwig, Franz, Frydryk, J.S., Felix & the rest of the boys are so looking forward to the party tonight! Eventually, we`ll all be together, so until then.......
PS. Don`t drink too much!! Image

In honor of Mozarts birthday I shall post the Seven Musical Truths:
I. Music is the universal language. It is present in all discovered and undiscovered dimensions.
II. Music, as the language of the Cosmos is not our invention, rather our discovery. Harmony pervades all form.
III. Harmony is a complex yet understandable system of vibration and resonance. Musical harmony serves as the rosetta stone for science and spirit.
IV. Music is a "memory magnet" capable of calling into consciousness specific human emotion, feeling thought and experience.
V. Music is a self-organizing stream of energetic information which directly effects the systems of the body, mind, and spirit.
VI. As a living metaphor, music is both teacher and revealer of the nature of creation. Music serves as a dimensional template for life.
VII. Music has the ability to transform the human spirit, allowing our hearts and minds to synchronize with the energy that is all that is.
Harold Moses Ph.D.E.

This is a very interesting set of statements. Like a musical composition it will appeal to some and not others. It's like verbal impressionism (vague) and will appeal to people who are happy to put their own meanings to what they read, a very common practice. Those who want classicism (clarity) in statements will not likely be satisfied with the 7 truths. If we can see both views as valid, then we are tolerant. It ain't easy, but it's worth trying.

Musical intolerance (which is not usually fatal) is much like religious intolerance (which has a much worse track record for deaths). I often think musical taste is very like religious preference. And conversions in each arena are just as tough.
I'm stepping down from the soap box and going to sleep. Good night, people.
Shos

Hey, happy birthday Michael!!! And just for curiosity, did you buy Mahler’s 2nd to celebrate it? If you didn’t and you are willing to, I would strongly recommend you Bernstein’s 1988 on DG. It’s far from being the cheapest but I doubt there could be another better.

Peter,
You could have congratulate Mozart, if not in person, by sending him some lines on his message forum at his OWN website! http://www.allegrowd.com/01.html

[This message has been edited by Luis (edited 01-29-2001).]

I already have a weakness for Bernstein - his is my favourite Beethoven set and I also like his Brahms (though the critics don't!). I'll certainly consider his Mahler 2! Being rather broke at the moment, I'll have to drop a few hints at home - though it's bit late now for the old birthday scam.
Michael
