Pretty close to number one, I'd say....

"When the Islamic call to prayer was allowed to be broadcast through the streets of Hamtramck, it thrust religious tradition into the national spotlight and illustrated the growing influence of Muslims in the multi-ethnic enclave."
I can remember when the Catholic church in the town I grew up in had to stop ringing its bells Sunday morning because of the locals' complaint.

GC,

Are you saying someone has died as a result of some lie that President Bush supposedly told?

The truth is that we will never know the truth. Personally, I don't think GWB lied. I think he made a decision based on intelligence that was gathered (whether true intelligence or no).
And it's true that while Clinton's lie did not kill anyone (or inadvertantly send them to their deaths) his direct lie to the American people was like a slap in the face. Even a fourteen year old girl knew that he was lying and still he pretended like the public was stupid to save his own political butt. I think that his actions were despicable.
But as I said, we will probably never know the truth about the Iraqi war, even those who think they do probably do not.

In spite of all of that, you took a comment meant to bring some humorous relief and changed it into something else. . .
I was merely trying to lighten the atmosphere in here a bit. .. but I see that is impossible. . .so I will surface to the top of the pond as Haggis says.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone would be as foolish as to knowingly lie about something as provable as WMD, although I tend to believe that Bush wanted them to be there so much he felt they simply HAD to exist. What the CIA based their reports on was clearly flawed "intelligence" (I use the term as the government uses it, not as the general public does), and with a war that killed thousands of them and almost a thousand of us, the consequences were clearly enormous.

Somebody lied, and far too many people believed. That's obvious now.

That depends on what your definition of "is" is.

Listen to the audio at the link provided (it's short) and see if you think we've learned anything in 40 years.

The part that really made my skin crawl was the authorization for military action passing by 88 to 2 on faulty intelligence.

Let me add one more which should have been first: Center for Budget & Policy Priorities which is the US Government apolitic source of this information; the census compilation of economics.

My points are simply this:

1) We don't know if the trend is continuing or has been altered by President Bush's tax cuts, because we don't have data provided.
well, Shap, there ya go. ;)

I'm afraid I don't have enough time to listen to the clip and respond, but I believe it's the same one I heard before - the radio chatter among the planes who don't see anything to shoot at.

And, as you might guess, I also feel that any Senator who voted to let a President decide on going to war instead of doing their Constitutional duty was simply proving their own political cowardice.

Census data released Thursday, August 26 show that the number and percentage of Americans living below the poverty line increased for the third consecutive year in 2003, and the number and percentage of people without health insurance also climbed for the third straight year, leaving 45 million Americans uninsured in 2003 — the largest number on record, with the data going back to 1987.
Center on Budget and Policy Priorities Director Greenstein
Comments on the New Data

“The year 2003 marked the third straight year that living standards have deteriorated,” Center executive director Robert Greenstein observed, “with poverty increasing, the number of uninsured climbing, and the income of the typical household stagnating. In addition, by some indicators, gaps between the most well-off and other Americans — already at exceptionally wide levels — became still larger in 2003 .”

Data from a CBO report released on August 13 indicate that the tax cuts will exacerbate income inequality by boosting the after-tax income of high-income households far more than that of middle- and low-income households.
