Gobsmacked? Crikey!

Actually, I had read that quote of G.H.W. Bush shortly after his decision to cease agression in Iraq over a decade ago. I have yet to read a rebuttal from either the elder or the younger.

I doubt GHWB would make a rebuttal (at least one that goes against GWB's policies and performance).
Like with Laura (whom we discussed earlier on another thread), I don't think they are afraid to go against GWB's ideas, I just think they choose not to.
I do not purposely argue with my loved ones in public, so I doubt they would either.
Just a personal preference, I think.

Don't think anyone asked either about this quote.

I am still gobsmacked...

True. . .but they probably would be evasive anyway right? So it wouldn't be very productive anyway.

Global survey shows 30 of 35 countries want Kerry in White House:

I suppose if I had remembered to register earlier this year I would have signed up for the absentee ballot. My dilemma seems to be to choose between what I think would benefit everyone and what i've been told would be beneficial for my financial success. True, I haven't fully researched both candidates but I've been spending most of my time studying - again probably a bad excuse since this is an important election. I know it's my right and responsibility to vote but i get annoyed easily at the BS of politics and no matter who I vote for, I doubt any of the preelection promises/plans will be fulfilled by any candidate.

Re the OB/GYN quote, I saw it on Jay Leno. If anything, W has been good for a few laughs these past 4 years and has given SNL and other comedians more than enough material to work with. Do you suppose he was in homework study groups with Dan Quayle? (What ever happened to that potato?)

I read this suggestion for a bumper sticker:

Now, back to reality. Register. It's a moral obligation and a prerequisite to the joys of complaining about the administration, for the next four years. There are other issues besides the vote for the presidency; you may actually approve of some of the candidates. (I check for creationists running for the school board.)

And, FWIW, the "ick" factor in your response to an individual is not a bad thing to remember. If a guy strikes you as a cold, evil, slime mold it's not unreasonable to think that he might actually be a cold, evil slime mold.

The financial success factor (or the reasoning behind that argument) deserves some thought. Chances are, though, that an MD will not starve no matter what federal politics and shenanigans occur in the next 4 years. Do not let it be the sole consideration. Go with your honest preference, if you have one, and your best guess if you haven't.

Checked the survey. Now, I have to admit that I'm a contrarian at heart. But if France and Spain and Germany are all ticked at somebody, how can that be bad? Must be doing something right!

I'm not in it for the money...if that were the case, I certainly wouldn't have chosen a primary care field and I probably would have followed my brothers into the computer engineering field - oh wait, I don't love computers that much. And I know I won't go broke if one party won the presidency over another but I also don't want to lose out on anything.

I decided to attempt to register - the thought of not voting finally made my inner idealistic feelings of long ago wake up and force the sarcastic disenchanted outer layers to crack. Hopefully the process will go quickly and easily. Apparently if I accidentally provide wrong info, I can either go to jail or pay a bunch of $$ and financial aid doesn't provide enough to pay such fines. And the thought of being in jail in new orleans makes me shudder. Not that I plan on lying on an absentee ballot application.

Besides, I think my parents might get mad if they found out I didn't vote.

Would your parents be more ticked off if you told them you voted against their choice?

I don't think my parents would be ticked off but I would have to be able to defend my decisions...but that pretty much holds true for any decision that my parents may not agree with. I think I would probably take more crap from my cousin if I were to vote for Bush or any policy that my cousin is against. He would go as far as to lock me in his parents' basement and create an elaborate powerpoint presentation to get me to see things his way.

I suppose there's one way of finding out how my family would react - I could just randomly mention that I might vote for bush and see what results. It could be entertaining as well as a learning experience.

Do what you believe is right but tell your folks we have too much government in our lives and you're either voting libertarian this year or voting everyone in power out of office. ;)

OT, deep clensing breaths.

Scrapple face is a parody making up quotes based on news articles. Pres. Bush never said those things
