I did, O.T. I like nuclear-powered subs, or at least the concept of being able to go where you want, when you want, more or less without worrying about fuel, in a decent-sized boat. (Are they called boats or ships?) The first thing our navy has to do when it gets somewhere is refuel. It's 2000km to anywhere from here, before you even start operations.

And o.k., I'm asking! (re the jokes).

Dai,

Tave (or T[ave], the [ave] is supposed to be in subscript) is the average coolant temperature in the reactor vessel. It has to be maintained in a safe operating range, known as the green band, because it is indentified with a green band on the temerature dial. Thus, reactor operators are reminded to "keep T[ave] in the green band". It's one of the things drilled into our heads from day one.

I'm sure by now you're laughing your head off!

heh

A letter from a young soldier in Iraq concerning the recent CBS report, now mostly discreditied, that Pres Bush was going to re-institute the draft after the next election

(Ed. "Another "discredited" CBS report?"

What can I say, either they are getting sloppy late in life or they've been putting out garbage for decades and it wasn't until the internet came along that allowed us to fact check them

Ed. "Well, I know which of those two theories I believe!")

I'm still chuckling....

Yes, you had to be there.

Kind of like this submarine-only pearl:

"Don't worry, the flooding will put the fire out."

Puts me in hysterics every time!

Water all over the screen? Rad, man!

At the core, this is sophisticated humor. You just have to travel in the right orbitals to get a charge from it.
