Presidential Debates

Postby mmichaelson » Thu Oct 07, 2004 10:20 am

All right. I thought it high time there was an actual thread for the debates. We've all been discussing them.
I was not able to watch the Vice Presidential debate this week, but yesterday as I was getting a filling, my dentist said something that almost made me gag: He told me that he hated Cheney, though he was an *ss and that had he been Edwards, he would have spit, instead of shaking hands and meeting Cheney's family.
What did Cheney do that was so hateful, according to my dentist??
I'm interested to hear opinions about that debate!

I know, I had no choice but to listen. .. the whole left side of my face, lower lip, and chin were totally numb. . .I had no way of escape, especially while he was drilling and telling me that he would spit on Cheney! I was getting mental images of my dentist spitting on Cheney as the Secret Service went into action (for anyone who saw that movie with Chris Rock running for President, you know what I mean). I thought I would die right there in the dental chair!
My first cavity in over 10 years. . .<sigh> how annoying.

He went crazy though, seriously. . .(my dentist) talking about how Cheney was rude and hateful and he would have spit on him and his whole family and would have punched him in the face. . .what did Cheney do????

ROFL!

My impression was that Edwards was the one that came out swinging. I can't remember what the first slam was but I think it was that "...you still aren't being honest..." remark.

IMO, I think Edwards was 100% correct.

I'm sure Edwards was NOT surprised by the flame-throwing reaction he got from Cheney. The reaction, which was to the effect of what a lousy senator Edwards was: "...I am president of the senate and the first time I've ever met you was when you walked onto the stage tonight" was half as bad as Edwards was actually hoping for. (Yes, I think Edwards was intentionally trying to insite something).

Turns out Cheney was "mistaken". IMO, the remark still hit home. They had only met twice before. The difference between never and twice is slim in my opinion. Cheney made his point.

When the discussion turned to the gay marriage issue, Edwards did a complete 180 on Cheney, complimenting him on the way he handles his daughters lifestyle and how Edwards was certain that Cheney loved his daughter very much etc...

Cheney was very appreciative.

After that, I thought Cheney seemed really, really, really tired. Sort of emotionally drained.

They both did a good job all in all.

Well, good to know. Cheney's tiredness must have rubbed off from Bush in the last debate. He seemed tired and worn out.
I'm a little said I missed the debate. It sounds interesting to see important figures in our country acting like guests on the Jerry Springer show.
Now, if only my dentist HAD shown up. I am still spinning imagining the Secret Service taking him down like in the Chris Rock movie. <sigh> the wonders of film.
Thanks for the update RC.

Hi Saxy. I don't spit, but I would dearly love to see the candidates forego political correctness and avoid shaking hands. It looks so phony when it's followed by the expected name calling.

I can't speak for your dentist's reasons. I find Cheney no worse in action than many other politicians, but I abhor the administration's policies. I think Cheney suffers from appearance. He looks unfriendly, and his demeanor seems to have a permanent sneer. On the other hand, I admire his brain, his articulation, and his understated dismissals. I just want him out because of his policies.

Personally, I find him a perfect complement to bush. It's very difficult to detect from body language when he's lying. And it's just as difficult to determine when Bush is telling the truth.

I think it's easy to tell if they're lying.

It's when their mouths are open...

With liberty, justice, and profit for Halliburton...

Here's one to watch for, seriously; pay attention to who quotes figures vs who quotes percentges.

Whats the difference?

In macro economics, it means everything. Consider 1.7 million sounds like a big number to the average Joe. What if it's only .2%?

Just watch, you'll see what I mean.

That depends on the subject matter. If you talk percentage changes on my paycheck it sounds fair; if you use the actual numbers, you might as well use peanuts or monopoly money.

Hello again Saxy,

Cheney? He's not worth my saliva!!

In addition to Cheney's role in formulating this administrations policies (which I, like Shos, abhor) the man is a weaseling big oil/big business guy. He's still stonewalling the investigation into his "energy taskforce," which Republicans wish kept a secret, unlike their earlier shark-like attacks on Bill and Hillary's Health task force for exactly the same reasons as they are being called to task for now.

And does anybody really think that his connections with Halliburton (he was the CEO before becoming the Bleep Veep) were severed when he took up his new job.

And what about his role as the main guy pushing for the war in Iraq from the getgo! It's clear to me the primary justification for the war in Iraq was to feather the nests of Halliburton (Primarily) and other big oil companies. Forget about Saddam as a threat to the US security and think about the billions that US companies have reaped (or raped) from our being at war. It was about oil then and it's about oil now Our fine soldiers are dying to satisfy the greed of American business, nothing else. Unfortunately, because prior to the war all they could see was the oil flowing into tankers and being shipped to the US, the neocons and oil folks forgot that in addition to using military might to subdue a tinhorn dictator's ragtag army, they needed a plan and an Army big enough to protect the civilian infrastructure and population of a sizeable country. 1000 American's have paid the ultimate price for these shortcomings, with no end in sight.

Fill out Bush and Chaney's report cards (an A in war-mongering and and F in planning) and send them home!!

Vote the Moron OUT!!

PS. Is it true that the W in George W. Bush stands for "What, me worry?"

Nude....don't hold back! Tell us how you really feel. Do you have a backup plan in case W wins?

George started the debates like a bobble-head doll. I would say that if you saw the debate and are Republican, you thought Bush won. If democrat, you thought Kerry won the debate.
If you hate Bush, you thought Kerry won hands down. If you mistrust Kerry, you thought Bush won easily.

Aren't 2 heads better than 1? They should both be forced to serve in the White House.....together! Then we would all win!

Naw, pigaboo, I find myself more in sync with the Aussies, the New Zealanders, or the French (gasp!) than I do the Canadians. Or maybe I'll finally go find that idyllic island in the Pacific I always dreamed of retiring to.

Hi NvB,

Don't you be calling my wife a pig!

:D

It's actually piQaboo, as in peek-a-boo.

Don't worry, you're not the first, and certainly won't be the last. I think it's the font used on the posts that makes it confusing.

BTW, I think you need to find another sign off term for GWB. I've run into a few morons who are quite incensed at the comparison.

:D :D

(that's humor, nothing but, for all you GWB fans out there - you know who you are)

Oops, OT, Sorry about the swine reference. These tired eyes did indeed see a G where a Q existed, U-less. Where in SoCal are you located and do you also experience the radio vibes of KMZT as well as this fine CT web stream?

My apologies to the other morons. I can only imagine the depths of their despair.

We hail from Sandy Eggo. I'm not familiar with KMZT. For that matter, the only FM classical music we have here anymore is during the evenings on KPBS.

As for b.com, it is indeed a fine stream, even if they don't play my request.... :D

Ahh, SDiego. I know the upper reaches of your county well, San Onofre in particular, where au naturale is de rigeur, driving the dogs of morality to bay across the county line. KMZT is LA station, http://www.kmozart.com/. No online music but excellent FM playlist.

On November 2, Vote out W (What me worry?).
