I don't have time to check them all. Some of them I'm not familiar with, I assume they were included to skew the tally. I doesn't change everything, It was just a couple of omissions I noticed right off the bat.

I think there was a bit more that story, like the loss of an arm.
Shap, I dont think Bob Dole's role required defending or expansion. Army did heavy duty in WWII.>respectful icon>

The library gives a long list of details about a man who made movies. Perhaps it is more accurate that they were training rather than propaganda films. So ???

You admire the man as president. ?Also as gov of CA? ?As an actor? So he didnt serve in combat, so what? :p

. I'd like to see them all checked. I wont. I just ran thru an ~= sample of the names I do know. Doest appear there was any need to consciously skew the list, tho that doesnt prove it wasnt done.

Piq,

No, the author goes to great lengths to list the medals and decorations of the Democrats. You would not know, from reading the account, that President Reagan was even in the Army, just that he was an actor. Big difference.

Bob Dole was more than an "officer in WWII, from the Bob Dole biography:

Bob Dole was twice decorated for heroic achievement, receiving two Purple Hearts for his injuries, and the Bronze Star Medal for his attempt to assist the downed radio man.

The author left mention of those out as well.

I'm a charter member of the National WWII Memorial Association. Every year they send out a pretty cool calendar. This year one of the months has pictures of the presidents who served during WWII (pictures of when they were in the service.

Pictures include Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon (even though he was a Quaker), Ford, Reagan (US Army Air Force) and Bush.

That gives you some idea that all of those presidents had a common experience.

And of course, John Wayne pulled strings to stay out of the service so his acting career wouldn't suffer.

Always knew that man was a pain in the donkey. I guess that's objectively as well as figuratively correct! :D
