Election Day Marathon

Postby mmichaelson » Tue Nov 02, 2004 10:12 am

So, whether you're a donkey or an elephant, we'll see how today ends up, and what the next four years could potentially bring. :D

And don't forget to exercise your right to VOTE today, or you can't complain about how the polls end up!

Besides, I can't help it if you're just jealous of my ingenuity and ability to come up with large amounts of random info.

Hi Saxy-

I'm going to vote after work. A few co-workers have come in and said there are few lines in CT polling places. But in CT Kerry will win, no suprise there. Since we are not a "battle ground state" it should be pretty quite around here.

BUT... CT is the only state that has a rule that anyone can vote as long as you live in CT. You do not have to be registered to vote you just need to have proof you live here and you can show up and vote. Should be interesting!

Nicole,

In Wisconsin, you can do the same thing ... they register you right at the polls. And as for proof of residence, all you have to do is bring in someone who will vouch for you. No ID required. Can you spell vote fraud?

Yesterday, the polls were reporting abouta 6 point lead for Kerry in FL. Today, Kerry & Bush are reportedly neck & neck in FL.

Obviously these are only POLLS, not real live votes. Even though we started voting many days ago, they aren't supposed to count actual votes until the polls close.

However, Kerry is supposedly looking good in MOST battleground states (Reuters/Zogby poll about an hour ago).

I voted this morning. The elementary school and parking lot was a beehive. There was a line reminiscent of an amusement park waiting line. I had to provide proof of residency before and after I voted!

This was the first time I had to connect the dots and draw the arrow to the candidates name (what the?). If you write in a name, you must provide the address too. Needless to say I had to vote for someone real because I don't have Squidward's address in Bikini Bottom. (You didn't really think I was voting for someone fictional, did you?)

I don't think they will allow you to watch any results until later tonight so it doesn't skew votes on the right side of the map.

Woohoo voters!

I voted this morning, too. Northern VA is all hi-tech. They have touch screens that flash at you if there's a problem. Easiest thing I've ever done. Lines were looooong. I got there a little after the polls opened 6 am and didn't get through until almost 8. Wow.

OT's cartoon above applies to a lot of Virginians - Dems living in a RED state. Bummer. Been red forever I think. Time for a change.... :)

Funny (kinda) battle-ground-state shennanigans from FL:

TV reports this morning that registered voters are receiving phone calls notifying them of an error in voting location on the voter registration cards and giving them another address. Of course if you show up in the wrong district, you can't vote. The News team did not mention if there was a partisan bias. The reported error was false, the registration cards were correct.

Also, registered voters received in the mail, an official looking notice of voting locations which said, if you're a republican, vote at this address (with the correct address), democrats vote at this location (giving the incorrect address).

That's so dirty.

I read in the NY Times that in some lower income (and predominantly occupied by minorities) districts of Wisconsin, flyers were going around saying "people are not eligible to vote if they have voted in any previous election this year; if they have ever been found guilty of anything, even a traffic violation; or if anyone in their family has ever been found guilty of anything."

Now that's dirty.

It's sad that people stoop that low. As a republican and a person, I think it's despicable that they try to keep people from exercising their rights that way.
I don't, however, think the administration is stupid enough to stoop that low. I think it's local people who are pulling those stunts on their own in order to try and swing the election. (not that makes it any more wrong).
<sigh> I just can't wait until it is all over.

Texas Declares for Bush - Threatens to secede if Kerry wins. Texas to Secede

Now we know what Saxy is up to - she's a spy for Tx!

Seriously now - part of what scares me about GWB is that the folks who support him are willing to sink so low as these shenanigans that are being reported. <shudder icon>
