That's simply your opinion as you see it from a paralax view. No one seems capable of seeing anything for its simple truth, if such a thing exists. Unfortunately, all of our opinions are drawn with the color of our orientation and POV. One must have an open mind without bias.

A simple example would be held in the old adage that "a hammer sees every problem as a nail"

Less judging and more action and compromise would solve a lot of problems

At one time, "Conservative" and "Liberal" meant how one interpreted the Constitution of the United States. A conservative interpretation meant a high respect for individual and personal rights, while a liberal interpretation meant more of an umbrella of federalism.

I recall an editorial in what was then the Santa Ana Register where they noted that there was an unfairly perceived connection between political conservatism and the blind patriotism, religious (particularly Protestant) fundamentalism, and jingoism of organizations like the American Nazi Party.

Unfortunately, I have seen the definition of "conservative" drift in that direction over the last forty years, which is why I don't use the term to describe myself.

jamie,

The last line was a joke based on this line from OT's post:
When the various factions of Right Wing propagandists started mapping out their propaganda strategies in the 1990's they figured they would define terms in their own way, such as defining "Liberalism" in such a way as to make it appear unreasonable and ridiculous.

I was interrupted during the posting, so I forgot to put in the smiley, which I often forget anyhow. I had hoped the readers would recognize the quotes and put it in a humorous context.

I've edited the post to include the smiley.

Sorry Shap...I missed your intended humor and did not pick up on the link with OT's post. I guess I should have been less judgemental

Barfle does generally embody what I grew up understanding as being a conservative. I think his observation of the perversion of its meaning is astute.

Shap - you're wiggling again.

No sweat. My humour frequently misses the mark. I forget that not everyone who reads these posts knows about my tendency to through in little witty (at least in my mind) jabs in an otherwise serious post.

I'm the same way in conversation, which sometimes leaves my listeners scratching their heads.
