From what I read, the fact that they're out touring the disaster area is supposed re-energize financial support from home. Bring it back to the fore of people's awareness.

But their friendship is supposed to extend beyond cooperation to drum up more donations for tsunami relief. According to the article I cited, they're almost fishing buddies.

As for being buddy-buddy, it's a good way to show THEY can transcend partisan politics (as ex-presidents), just in case that 2-term limit ever gets lifted.

I never looked deeply into Bush 41's heart. I thought his neglect of the underprivileged was lack of awareness, as opposed to Bush 43's agressive and fully aware disdain.
