The only "acceptable" solution for California Democrat politicians is to raise taxes. I don't think that formula will work indefinitely, but that's up to California voters.

Actually, it should be up to California’s taxpayers, but that would be discrimination. The only "discrimination" permitted in California is against taxpayers.

Unfortunately, when more non-taxpayers depend on imposing additional burdens on the fewer taxpayers to maintain their lifestyles then the taxpayers become subservient to the non-taxpayers. I’d call it slavery but at least, in the end, the taxpayers can decide to leave the state; I did.

In Denver, last August, standing in front of those stage-set columns to accept the Democratic Party nomination, Barack Obama delivered a speech that included the following promise (boldface is mine):

I will also go through the federal budget, line by line, eliminating programs that no longer work and making the ones we do need work better and cost less - because we cannot meet twenty-first century challenges with a twentieth century bureaucracy.

Today, Obama returned to Denver, and with elaborate ceremony signed the $787 billion “stimulus” bill passed last Friday by Congress, which runs to more than 1,070 pages. That left fewer than 96 hours between passage and signing (thus also violating his promise about posting legislation for five days on the internet before signing, to allow for transparency and comment).

When did Obama even find time to skim this monster bill? Let alone go through it “line by line?”

there was a great "Frontline" on PBS tonight about the meltdown...

The fat's in the fire now.

Will Rogers says it's a mistake to expect a problem to be fixed by the people who caused it.

My two cents is they shoulda given the bailout money instead to Haliburton and Bechtel with instructions to fix up every creaky bridge, leaky dam, and rundown park in the country. There's something the next generation could enjoy.

Hear, hear!

I've been saying all along that the ability of the population to amend the Constitution of the State of California is its downfall. If it's that easy to amend, it's NOT a Constitution, just a regulation.

Economic Winter, Hints Of Spring

An opinion piece, to be sure, but the type of optimism I've been talking about. Jubak is usually a downer, too.

FIGHT THE POWER! STICK IT TO THE MAN! UP WITH THE LITTLE GUY! Obama Stimulus Saves Microsoft Billionaire Hundreds Of Millions.

As more and more of these intended and unintended consequences of the stimulus becomes apparent more and more Americans wonder what, exactly, it was suppose to do for them.

From Nov. 4, 2008 through Feb. 12, 2009, the DJI fell 18% — a larger drop than during the Sept-Oct plunge. In January, when the Obama plan, promising far greater deficits than the two much smaller “emergency stimulus” plans signed by Pres. George W. Bush in 2008, was unveiled, the market tanked – the worst January performance in 113 years.
