GC has been regurgitated by the technomonster! Now I've GC AND TGC! With screwdrivers firmly ensconced in both (all 4??!) paws I confidently face the future. Now if only my left hands knew what my right hands were doing....

Thanks again Chris and Sarge

I'm getting used to this. :D

Whoa! It looks like you've found them all, even the ones I didn't save. I think I've got a PM there from Teddy Rooseveldt! :D

If you use Internet Explorer, download the Google toolbar. It has a spell checker built in that will spell check the text and the title. It's pretty slick, you just click on the underlined word and select a correctly spelled word from the drop-down menu. http://toolbar.google.com/ They say it works with FireFox too, but I've never tried it. How about it you FireFox users, ever used Google toolbar?

One quirk of Google tool bar which you will find quickly on b.com is if you click on the spell check button and slide the mouse across the links and ads at the top of the page it will sometimes turn the spell checker off. So I click on it and navigate around the edge of teh explorer window to correct words.

They were there! They were there! Three pages of them, my inbox was 466% full!

I checked 'em over, deleted madly through the pages full of messages, and laughed at the post dates - there was a Merrry Christmas dated 24 December 2018. I'll spend the rest of the day wondering how I did that.

Chris, you and Sarge rock! Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Thank you so very much for rescuing the pm's. It looks as though you had to get verrrrry creative to get them back(I like how my Inbox is 1142% full, and how some of the pm's are as recent as 2019 :D). I'll have something to do for the next couple of weeks while Altoid naps....

*igJon,

I've used the Google toolbar, but not with FF. It seems redundant with FF, so I never installed it.

I attempted to PM this to OT:

You are planning to save the important PMs off to a hard drive or two, yes? Servers do occasionally die, boards blow up, etc.

Did you get a little yellow screwdriver? A St. Vidicon shrine? 1142% is possibly the most full any mailbox has ever been.

S

ps, I'm also wondering if this will get through that 1142% glut, and if so whether it'll be noticed among said 1142%.

Well, to comment on the ps, it didn't make it through the 1142% full inbox.

I now want to report that trying to post a pm to an 1142% full inbox garners the following message:
You cannot make another post so soon after your last; please try again in a short while.

This probably is another of those undocumented features that show up in beta testing (I feel beta-ish today. ) and I think we probably need a different message for posting to overloaded PM boxes. Low priority fix, probably.

Yay! I'm glad it worked for everyone. Sorry about the dates. I had to write my own conversion code and I goofed that part, but I'm sure that wasn't too important. I increased the maximum number of messages you can have in your box so hopefully those size numbers will be a bit more reasonable.

Also, you may not see too many changes to the BB for a month or two as we'll be focusing on migrating the website to new servers. After that big project is finished I'll tweak the board some more. Thanks!

This is called flood control. It is a recent implementation by the phpBB gurus to prevent malicious hackers from overwhelming the server by sending the same request over and over. I think the default is 15 seconds, but that is customizable be the admins. So take a deep breath, count to 15 and resend your request.

Yes, that's the flood control message. It is not all that recent, I'm not all that malicious, and it showed up as a response to an isolated post to a PM box that was 1142% full. This suggests that the "flood control" response was triggered by the wrong stimulus; or that the "overfull" stimulus was triggering the wrong response. :sheesh:

I know I'm blond-ish where I'm not gray, but I generally pick right up on the obvious. :insulted:

In defense of my 1142% full Inbox.

:clears throat:

First, they've all been moved to what is now my 1142% full Saved Messages box.

Second, 99.9997% of those messages are old delets(and I thought they were gone for good - oh my   ).

Like I said, I'll have something to keep me bust while Altoid naps for the next couple of months.

Besides, I can't help it if I'm popular(he says. not alluding to the large percentage of those pm's that were hate mail....).

PS. Chris, sorry if it didn't come across as a joke about the dates, etc. I'm just glad to have my saved pm's back, and for that I'm extremely grateful(not to mention relieved to learn that'll I'll live at least until 2019).

Those crafty B.com IT guys have been up to their tricks again. Without deleting a single message, my 12 page long Saved box is now only 54% full.

Clever.....

Of course, I still have a lot of weeding to do.....

I have to wonder how big someone like Shos' or Barfle's Inbox got with all those old pm's resurfacing from way back when they joined.

Since I'm being told I have no new messages, I hadn't bothered to check, but now that I have, I see that I have three pages of mesages, and my inbox is 44% full, including some rather impressive trips down memory lane.

I'm particularly impressed by the number of "Re"s some of the conversations generated. :o
