Ranking of the Orchestra in the States?

Hi, I am just wondering if there's any objective ranking about all the orchestra in the US...like they do that for grad schools? Since I always hear "top 5" or smth like that when they advertise their tour for some orchestra...

Well, if not, maybe talk about your favorite?

Oy, Serenity, that wasn't what she was asking at all. That page ranks the quality of the orchestra's website. Oy!

there are a traditional big 5 orchestras, which I think were NY, Boston, Philly, Chicago, Cleveland. but that list has been compiled a very long time ago. Boston became pretty mediocre over those years, as well as Cleveland. Boston is now probably back up there and rising, because they have the best living conductor (objectively :p) as their musical director. San Francisco is probably as good as any of those on the traditional list, if not better.

I don't think so, and probably not. It's not like there was a league, with playoffs :yikes: or something. And then there's the question of who would do the ranking, and what the rules would be, and whether there should be rules at all.

I figure the guys with the most bagpipes would win.
