I have my best stereo hooked up to this computer. Most of the time I use Windows Media Player when I play a disc, which isn't all that often. Generally it's internet radio or stored files.
However, I got a copy of the first CD to feature Auckland's new Town Hall organ that I've waxed lyrical about before. So, wanting to hear it at its best, I used my best stereo and popped the disc into the DVD writer in the computer. It started playing with WMP, and I was rather disappointed in the result, which was acceptable, but that's about all.
As it happened, my local paper had that night run an article about media players, and mentioned Winamp, which was described as the one to get if you're serious about music. So I downloaded it and replayed the disc.
You wouldn't believe the difference! The improvement was instantly noticeable. So now I have Winamp as my default player, and I even gave them the $20 U.S. they wanted for the full set-up. At $30 N.Z. it's still cheap.
