We've had the cell phone law in NY for several years now. So we don't see 75% of people driving on the phone - maybe 30-40%. If my phone rings when I'm driving, I pull over. This very rarely happens as only my husband, mom, boss and daycare center have this number. My mother-in-law uses her cell phone easily more than my husband and I combined. I use mine most often to make long distance calls from home, and to call my husband from the daycare center to let him know when we'll be home (since Pumpkin wanted to go down the slides a few times before getting in the car or something). The phone also comes in handy when vacationing and you're running late, or get lost... We didn't even get our phones until I got pregnant, with the thought that I should be able to get ahold of my husband no matter where either of us were if something went wrong or I went into labor. The only time we even came close to getting up to our SHARED 300 minutes a month was after Pumpkin was born - I think we got to about 250 min. so, as Selma said - use the technology, don't let it use you.
What really bugs me is when you see two people in the car and the driver is using the phone. Why not let the passenger talk? Just the height of stupidity.
