What kind of Christmas tree do you use?

Postby dkm32 » Mon Dec 02, 2002 5:57 pm

Ah, there really should be a third choice: Live.
I get living trees and either plant them or donate them to an organization that will plant them. If I had to choose between a natural cut tree and an artifical one, I'd buy the artifical because I don't like the thought of cutting a living tree just for a week or two of my enjoyment.
It really bothers me to see these huge trees being cut for some city's downtown center. It deprives nature of a tree old enough to reproduce and provide homes and shelter for all the little creatures in the world. And, besides, you can't even see the tree for all the stuff they hang on it! Why not just have a scafold there???
OK, off my soap box.
[ 12-02-2002: Message edited by: dkm32 ]

I'm with you! I'll take a fake tree anyday.

Actually, we haven't had a tree at all for the past couple of years because we haven't been home for the holidays. Last year we had just moved across the country and were in an apartment that would have crowded out mice, so there wasn't any room. This year, we're going back to what used to be home and spend Christmas with relatives, so again, no tree at our house.

I look for the Aluminum Christmas tree like the one that Linus kicks in "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
Last time I had a real tree, my dog stole all the ornaments and draped them over his dog house where he won first prize in the decorating contest! My dog was wearing antlers and had a green friend too...hmmm...maybe that's a different story?
And, there's no explaining that silly talking snowman either...
[ 12-03-2002: Message edited by: DavidEB310 ]

I agree with Ben. Nothing makes a house smell like Christmas like a tree and/or fresh garlands. We pretty much had to give up real trees in the house when my kids were small because of allergies (not to the trees - molds, dusts, etc.)
Jeff

I get a live one from the local tree farm. They are grown for that purpose. This is exactly how vegetables are grown - neat rows over a broad acreage.
Some people think its cruel to cut live trees but they don't gasp at eating veggies. The only diff between the two is the length of time required to harvest. Other than that, there is NO difference.
tanc
P.S> I would never go "hunting" for a tree in the wild.
P.S.S. I do oppose logging, however.

Maybe next year, I'll buy an inflatable one (it has to come to that) -- just like the giant inflatable snowmen being offered this year (and inflatable Santa's years' previous).
Hmmm...inflatable snowman, inflatable Santa, inflatable tree, inflatable fireplace, inflatable wife... :D
