A police officer pulls a guy over for speeding and has the following exchange:
Officer: May I see your driver's license?
Driver: I don't have one. I had it suspended when I got my 5th DUI.
Officer: May I see the owner's card for this vehicle?
Driver: It's not my car. I stole it.
Officer: The car is stolen?
Driver: That's right. Come to think of it, I think I saw the owner's card in the glove box when I was putting my gun in there.
Officer: There's a gun in the glove box?
Driver: Yes sir. That's where I put it after I shot and killed the woman who owns this car and stuffer her in the trunk.
Officer: There's a BODY in the TRUNK?!
Driver: Yes, sir.

Hearing this, the officer immediately called his captain. The car was quickly surrounded by police and the captain approaced the driver to handle the tense situation.

Captain: Sir, may I see you license?
Driver: Sure. Here it is (it was valid).
Captain: Whose car is this?
Driver: It's mine, officer. Here's the owner's card. (The driver owned the car).
Captain: Could you slowly open your glove box so I can see if there's a gun in it?
Driver: Yes, sir, but there's no gun in it. (Sure enough, there was nothing in the glove box).
Captain: Would you mind opening your trunk? I was told you said there's a body in it.
Driver: No problem. Trunk is opened (no body).
Captain: I don't understand it. The officer who stopped you said you told him you didn't have a license, stole the car, had a gun in the glovebox, and that there was a dead body in the trunk.
Driver: Really?! Ain't that something? I'll bet the lying sucker told you I was speeding, too...

OT, we know just how silly we look. We don't care, though, and it's a lot easier than trying to hold a cell phone, brief case, and lunch box while opening a door.

Today I was in a bookstore...yes, I read books!

(To OT, check out the Discount Book Market two-doors from Rockin' Jenny's !!!! 80% off!)

At the check out, the lady in front of me (a teacher, btw), sent her sons back to get additional books four times while the people behind her waited. When she finally had what she wanted to purchase, she dumped her purse looking for her credit card. Found it! Cashier rang up the purchase.

THEN, just as as he handed her the piece of paper to sign, she got a phone call......

She kept talking...and, talking...and talking. A new cashier was called for us who were waiting. When I left she was still talking and hadn't signed the piece of paper!

Oh-ee-oh, ee-OHHH-oh

As the flying monkeys drag the topic back on topic.

I saw a highway cop turn on his lights and pulse his siren and pull over a Little Old Safe Driver on I-5 southbound, just south of the bay bridge. Presumably for doing 45 in the #1 lane.

My satisfaction was beyond words. I smiled the rest of the way home.

In Idaho, our license plates designate the county by the first number and letter (for example 8B is Bonneville County, 1J is Jefferson County). Anyway, the worst drivers here are the "1J" drivers. There is a lot of farm land in Jefferson County and many of their drivers learn to drive on farm trucks and tractors.

Last year I was driving to Southern California and was just outside of Las Vegas when I came upon a pick-up truck doing about 50 mph (interstate speed limits out here are 75 mph). He was stradeling the white line and just poking along. When I got close enough, I could see it was a 1J, Idaho plate.

This indicated to me that their poor driving was universal and not just isolated to Southeast Idaho.

Just my 2 cents worth.
I know one thing. Indecision may or may not be my problem.

Hey OT,

My guess is that because there are a lot of potatoes grown here, some of them must be famous. The only ones I've ever heard of are Mr. and Mrs. Potatoe Head. Not many other celebrity potatoes come to mind (except for maybe that bag of french fries in the old McDonalds commercials). :p

BTW that slogan has caused some consternation with some people in the north, who mine silver and opals, as the official state nickname is the "Gem State."

FYI

A little trivia:

Hell's Canyon is the deepest gorge in America.

Soda Springs boasts the largest man-made geyser in the world.

Rigby is known as the birthplace of television since it is Philo T. Farnsworth's hometown. Farnsworth pioneered television technology.

In Idaho law forbids a citizen to give another citizen a box of candy that weighs more than 50 pounds.

Bruneau Dunes State Park contains North America's tallest single structured sand dune. It stands 470 feet high.

Sun Valley is recognized as the home of America's first destination ski resort.

Weiser is Home of the National Old Time Fiddlers Contest.

Famous Idahoans:

Joe Albertson (grocery guy)
Harmon Killebrew (baseball guy)
Bill Buckner (infamous baseball guy (sorry Red Sox fans))
Picabo Street (skier)
Lana Turner (actress)

The guy never moved over. There was room to go around him and the last time I checked the rear view mirror, he was still keeping his line.

Hi Parrothead, I used to be fairly well aquainted with Idaho Falls. I went to the naval nuclear prototype out at INEL (now called INEEL). Have you ever heard of the Swan Valley Commisary? How do you stand the cold?

How's this for a hijack?

Picabo Street's father was recently in an Intensive Care Unit after suffering a near fatal heart attack. He received such good care that a donation was made to the hospital. The hospital then decided to rename the facility the "Picabo ICU."

I've been doing fire protection engineering work for the INEL/INEEL for the past 13 years. Places you'd recognize such as (let the acronym barrage begin) TRA, CPP (now INTEC), TAN, RWMC and WROC/WERF. Have never done work and ANL-W or NRF. I don't have to go out to the hole in the middle of a deasert called the Site (the benefits of being a subcontractor), but my wife makes the 45 mile (one way) trip every day.

I'm not sure about the Swan Valley Commisary, but the Swan Valley General Store (right at the turn off to Pine Creek Pass) is a great place to get a square ice cream on a stick (in the summer, of course).

As far as the cold goes, I've never gotten used to it. I think it's just something to endure (along with the wind).

That's the place. It used to be owned by this old couple, Harry Traughber and his wife (can't remember her name). While I was in Idaho Falls, I bought a 1971 Dodge Polara station wagon that used to be their car. It was fire engine red, and had "Swan Valley Commissary, Mercantile and Ranching, Harry Traughber and Sons, Swan Valley, Idaho," painted in white on the front doors and tailgate (painted by Fred's Signs), and a white swan floating on water on each back door. I got away with all kinds of mischief in that car because everyone thought I was a local. I used to donuts in the mall parking lot on the ice in the wee hours of the morning (after the bars closed), and I'd drive it into snow banks to see if I could leave my license number imprinted in the snow. The things we sometimes do for amusement!
