WCCC, Runaway Jury...and no Beethoven.com???

Postby jmfryar » Fri Oct 17, 2003 11:32 am

Went to CCC's advance screening of Runaway Jury last night. Movie was pretty good, the promo people were good (although the fact that one in six got a poster...and then they got t-shirts on top of it was mildly annoying...why not spread the love? But I digress)

my question is...why was there no Beethoven.com banner? I listen to both stations...there were other people there who listen to both...for crying out loud, half the audience was from UConn Law School! What a wasted opportunity!!!!

Thanks for the love but we are two independant companies. Yes we are sister stations and yes we share the same building, Christ, we even share staff members. But we are independant. We do joint promotions together at times but the movie promo's are deals worked out between WCCC, the movie promotion company and the theatre.

Beethoven is not part of that deal and for us to have signage at the event and not have been part of the original promotion is a big no-no. Could we be part of it one day? Sure but that is a call for the sales exec who has that account. The sales exec must then sell the theatre and movie promotion company on us too. Thanks for the idea, I'll bring it up with that sales exec and see if the theatre and movie promotion team would be open to us joining. It sounds simple but it's much more complicated then you think. Go on a sales call with our staff one day, I'm amazed and what they go through.

How was the movie? No in the building is talking to much about it.

I've been on my share of sales calls - I worked for an education software company as a consultant and used to go out to explain advantages and such...I still feel SOOO dirty...
sigh...

I think my counfusion came with the fact that you shared staff, engineers, sales, space, equipment...etc.

I do understand about keeping separate the two companies, but I think there's an element that is an attraction - If they're willing to take on CCC, well, Beethoven is an added bonus!!

As to the film - I can't comment. I was sitting with a couple of attorneys. The film was a documentary with a sappy ending as far as we're concerned. The problem may be that the audience didn't realize how reflective of reality that film really is...

Some would call it a horror film rather than drama.

I liked all the people in it, some great acting (the scene in the bathroom between Hoffman and Hackman was excellent) some unintentional laughter from law students and attorneys in the audience - "He interned with a large firm during the summer and seemed so disillusioned afterwards" made the three of us choke we were trying not to laugh out loud.

It was paced, could have been edited down, but it's based on Grisham, so what else do you expect?

I did sit next to the CCC people and I do have to say, to the "larger" woman sitting next to me - I'm glad you're proud of your weight and size and not afraid to show it, but next time you might want to wait for the ENTIRE line before you cheer...

(Hackmans character says "I love fat women...(cheer from the larger women in the audience) they're tight fisted and unsypmpathetic." (crickets chirp...uncomfortable silence)
