My boss is a forty-something old lady. She has two little yippity dogs that bark so much people have left her notes on the car about them and teenage neighbors have thrown darts at them from across the street. She constantly complains that she has mice in her home because she keeps finding rat poop in her dogs' bowls and hears scratching inside the walls of her house. Her car seats are covered in dog hair and the stench is awful; I cringe when she offers a ride to a meeting in another building even though the building is 2 minutes away. She reads the police blotter for "trends" in her neighborhood and calls the cops on the teenage kids across the street who held a high school graduation party; and asked her not to call the police. At work she is a "nano-manager", as opposed to micromanager; nosy, bitter and distrustful as can be. I've tried the nice approach and the business approach. All I can do now is study her; know what bothers her so I can test some of my hypothesis about her, document it and deliver it to where it will do the most damage by the time I leave the group. Somewhat reminiscent of The Shawshank Redemption, I hope.

Reminds me of an episode in my past....

The head of the psych department where I was studying told me I was too stupid to complete a degree and should take hairdressing at the local community college (and let's not even start on the argument that academics are smart and that crafts/tradespeople aren't -- I don't believe it and never have, but the dept. head seemed to think so).

I ran, sobbing, to a trusted professor and wailed, "Am I really stupid?" My prof answered, "No, you're not stupid. You have a very common undergraduate problem...you don't know very much. But that's why you're here."
