It's December... What do you want for Christmas/whateve

Postby 1st_oboe » Tue Dec 02, 2003 3:16 am

Hi All,
I just realized that it is indeed December, and Christmas is approaching. Time to formulate our wish/want/need lists. My whish list: Loree Violetwood English horn, Heckelphone (there's one for sale in London!), Baroque (modern reproduction anyway...) oboe d'amore. My more realistic list: oboe/english horn reedmaking tools, double reed cd's, hmmm... oh, the ability to pay off my hospital bills! Those collection agents are getting pretty persistent/annoying.
What is on your wish list?

Happy Holidays,
Aaron

Oh - almost forgot! B.com hat! Gotta have one of those!

Disclaimer: This post is not intended to advocate Christianity or the celebration of Christmas, and is not intended to be offensive to anyone who objects to such concepts. It is merely me starting a new and timely topic of discussion, as the board seems to be moving pretty slow right now. ;)
Insert creative phrase here.

I had to look to see what a creme brulee was. I found this:

Fun indeed!

Creme brulee . . . well worth dying of heart disease. Ya can just use the broiler in your oven instead of the torch. Much less likely to crack your glass pudding cups, burn your fingers, or start a fire, and you can do a lot more at once. Of course, the torch is much more fun if a fly should venture by. Beware, you can get quite a fire going making creme brulee with either method. Sacharides and lipids oxidize readily.

Why do I keep thinking about Tim "The Toolman" Taylor making grilled cheese sandwiches? :D :D

I have a wish list on amazon.com.

What I would REALLY appreciate is the time to appreciate all I already have, though. All work and no play is turning me into a curmudgeon. Retirement is only nine years away...

And Christmas, the winter solstice, Hannukah, or any other reason you can think of is a good enough reason to greet family and friends and share your love with them. No belief system is needed for that.

I want the temperature of the Earth to go up a couple of degrees...I'm tired of shoveling snow! I've been out there 3 times today (the first time for 2 hours). After shoveling for 2 hours I had to get started on a "big, big, big snowman" that the kids used as a punching bag for about half-an-hour. Now it just looks like a sad-looking-"volcano" (aka termite mound).

Don't you just love shoveling 'til your lower back hurts, only to watch the city plow build the Himalayas in front of your driveway!

(Humming I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas): I would gladly trade Serenity a couple of degrees Celsius for some of that slightly-used snow. It would go nicely on the still-looks-like-Mars-out-here hillsides, and when it melts maybe green stuff would grow.

I'd like a half-inch of rain, twice a week, for six weeks. I'd like water in Forest Hodges.

I want fabric-storage furniture for Christmas. Ikea has this big cubicle unit, with baskets that fit into the spaces. Or a lawyer's bookcase would be nice. Or just a good-sized cabinet. My stash keeps growing, and I'm up to four underway projects, of which only the knitted afghan is even remotely portable.

Why is the other person's grass always greener? I took my quarter-mile walk to the bus this morning through snow that had half-melted, then refroze, making it slicker than, well, than all that stuff.

"California Dreamin' on such a winter's day." And it's not really winter yet. :(

Actually, Selma, I hope you don't get that much rain that fast. I fear Donna's place would be swept away by the mudslides.

Do you snow-country people have heated driveways & paths?

I had one when I was living down South, but then I wasn't faced with the certainty of great quantities of snow; just the possiblity of a bit of it; and frost.

Heated driveways and paths? Wouldn't that be nice!

Actually, during my first freshman year at Washington State University, I discovered that most (but not all, unfortunately) of the sidewalks were the roofs of steam tunnels that brought heat from a central plant to the various buildings. That tended to keep the snow melted off the walkways. I hesitate to say that it was a waste of money, because it worked pretty well, but I can't imagine how much heat was used doing that.
