Girl Scout Cookies

They've been ordered,delivered and consumed.

What's the verdict?
What are your favorites and why?

I heard poor reviews of the lemon coolers, but I like them very well - a nice tang to them. (and they are "low fat").

Thin mints are perfect. Samoas are pure danger, can cause death by grinning.

The classic plain shortbreads are the absolute best. Add a cup of black coffee, yum.

I don't know what they're called but I like the ones with peanut butter...but then again, I'm addicted to creamy peanut butter...especially the odd texture of reese's peanut butter cup peanut butter...is that even REAL peanut butter?
I love the thin mints...I haven't had the other one you mentioned piqaboo.
The shortbread ones are good with chocolate or Strawberry flavored milk
it took me awhile before I liked the samoas but they're quite tasty as well
As a former girl scout, I had to try all varieties to be a well informed door to door cookie salesman but those were the ones I pushed. Now I run away when any of the girl scouts approach me for fear I will gain more weight just looking at the boxes.

They're called Tag-alongs. I love 'em.

The ones with the peanut butter filling are "Savannahs".

And, yes, the Reese's folks have real peanut butter in the cups; but they've added stuff to the peanut butter to sweeten it up a bit. Don't know exactly what they add.

Also an ex-girl-scout here, also did my turn with my kids selling those wretched cookies in front of the supermarket. Trust me, eating them is the best part.

Savannahs: P-nut butter sandwich cookies. VERY sweet and good with milk.

Tag-alongs: Pnut butter on top of a cookie biscuit, all dipped in chocolatey coating.

I cant remember from year to year which baker makes which. For a while you could get yummy apple cinnamon cookies, but the girl scouts changed bakers again and the yummy lemony ones replaced them. The lemon ones are coverd in powdered sugar so leave more evidence of scarf-age. The apple ones were discreet!

The Samoas are Definitely the best of the crop. For those not on the habit yet, let me describe.

Take a shortbread cookie, punch a hole in the middle.

ed. NOW you've done it, I have to get out the open box that I was studiously ignoring so I can discribe them and they'll be gone to my waist!

Coat the ring on all sides with a generous layer of carmel and toasted cocanut. Then slather on chocolate on the bottom and stripes of chocolate across the top. More addictive than cocaine, er not that I'd know exactly. But the taste is just a perfect blend with an after taste that says, "Hey, buddy, there're more where that came from, you know you want them..." I thought I was doing well, but no, 1,125 calories, inbibed in 2 days flat! HOWEVER, If they ever stop selling them, I'll go on a hunger strike!

Thin mints are also a favorite of mine. Just the right strength mint and mmmm chocolatey. My willpower functions a bit better with a box of those staring at me, but they still go rather quickly.. I have to forget that I have either of these for ANY chance that they last past a month!

(Note: This was a two samoa post. Oops, three... Obviously 4 will follow, and then how can I leave that one cookie to be alone in that row of packaging to get lonely!? And then there will be one row left in the package, and how can I let them get stale!? Ok, Willpower. Must, Stop, Waist, Expansion.)

Benito, LOL!!!!!!

Now for the sad part - you make a box last TWO DAYS??????!!!!!!! :(

I have a hard time stretching those 15 little samoa rings to a full 2 HOURS.

Thin mints are overrated? What heresy!!

I've also taken a liking to those new lemon cookies, and the double fudge chocolate chips have trouble making it home.

The thin mints I bought for the wedding won't be sent. Thanks, Piq!

I used to be a GS cookie nut, but the bakery they use around here has destroyed all the good recipes but the Samoans. The rest all taste like crap. Anyway, I am able to swear off GS cookies for good now that I've discovered these: http://www.littledebbie.com/products/CookieRings.asp Close enough that I no longer miss the Samoans.

I'm not allowed to go near Samoas any more. A few years ago, we bought a dozen boxes of Samoas and put them in the freezer to save for the future. Twelve days later, they were all gone. Since the kids are grown and have moved out of the house, I got blamed for eating all of them.

I buy boxes of them from people at work. I think they have narcotics in them.

*HOWL* 12 boxes in 12 days!? You must be joking! That's 15,000 extra calories in 12 days! 4 pounds of weight gain! I hope you were hitting the gym for hours! :D

I will have to steer clear of the Little Debbie ones. I fear I would eat a box a week for a year if I got my hands on them! 65,000 callories! And that's only if they are as generous in packing as the Samoas. I don't want to gain 18 pounds in a year thank you very much! I was disappointed when they put fewer Samoas in a box, but I understand now that it is for our own good. *laugh*

Narcotics is the only explanation I can come up with... I hope the Bush administration doesn't catch on...

Ben O'Den, your calculations assume that one continues to eat "real" food while in the midst of a samoa-fest. AT least in my case, 'tis not so. Samoa's displace all foods with nutrient content, and become the sole source of intake while the box lasts. Usually they replace breakfast and lunch both, but sometimes they replace dinner. Its a good thing the bakery uses "fortified" flour. ;)

Ah, so my method could be improved! Interesting that 500 extra calories didn't make me change my eating habits!

Ok, so I'd get scurvy instead of fat. THAT's an improvement! Depending on what doctor ya talk to I suppose...

Anyone hear about the folks that are boycotting Girl Scout Cookies because they think it's full of lesbians and supporters of safe sex?

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!
