Those of you who are James Joyce lovers (Saxy?) already know the significance of today's date. It's the 100 anniversary of Leopold Bloom's epic tour of Dublin in Joyce's Ulysses . Believe it or not celebrations will be held over much of the world:
Bloomsday
Joyce was a great lover of the opera and became obsessed with promoting the career of one of the great Irish tenors John O'Sullivan who sang and recorded as John Sullivan:
John O'Sullivan
Sullivan was perhaps best known for singing Arnold in Rossini's Guillaume Tell .
Perhaps we might hear a bit of that today? Sullivan's voice overpowered the technology whenever they recorded him and accounts say he was not done justice by those efforts.
Happy Bloomsday all!
