i am a nightmare for the fashion police in any sense! sometimes i can barely match the patterned clothes with the patternless (and sometimes i make it darn good)!! my ex was great at all this kinda stuff. he could walk into any room, any fabric shop, any clothes store and always make what ever it was look good.

a wonderful job to you both!

psst.. i don't NOT like the red. in the pic it looks almost like a rasberry

I'm here in sacramento and my niece doesn't care for my loving embrace. I don't think my shoulders are comfy enough - I've been told that by a friend when she tried to rest her head on my shoulder. She's happy for awhile when I first hold her but then she wigs out. I've long had the theory that kids under the age of 4 hate me and can sniff the doctor out of me. In my defense, other people have gotten to hold her with a pacifier. Oh and it didn't help that people were in her face taking pictures just as I would calm her down. When I get a copy of me with the little worm then I'll show more pix.

We keep being told the little varmints reach a stage in infancy where they don't want to socialize with anyone but their parents. Not looking likely with Altoid so far.

And then there's the type of baby Peyton may be. She might be touchy or sensitive.

The other thing you may need to be aware of is how you handle her. A good friend of ours(she claimed she always made babies cry when she held them - we thought, "Not this time!") held Altoid the first time she saw her, and within a half hour, Altoid was fussing mightily. We figured it was the rabbit-like, high energy movements our firend made while holding her stressed her out. We talked with her about it, and next time she held her she modified her movements, and Altoid was fine.

Probably preaching to the choir, but it's food for thought.

Truth to tell, unless I was nursing her, Altoid was none-to-thrilled at being held by me in the early days. She preferred her papa. I surmise because he was warmer, among other things. Now she stares at whichever one of us isnt holding her. Kinda weird til ya realize it works both ways.

Altoid is SO much easier to work with since she could support her own head. That floppy head things demands three hands and a double jointed arm from a first time parent.

Cant wait to see you and HRH Peyton, aka the little worm.

Try holding wormlet like a wet cat. Face down, her head supported by the top of your forearm, one of her arms dangling down on each side of your elbow, and your hand firmly holding her inside leg. This is a very secure hold, the baby feels supported, and you have the other hand free to do things.

Well, things are better, she gets fussy but I was told of the bouncing ball and the little princess will whine the second you stop bouncing. Thankfully she passed out after a few minutes of bouncing because my legs (from bouncing on the yoga ball), my arms (9 pounds gets heavy after awhile), and my left wrist (from being in one position for too long) were aching. Okay, so the last two didn't hit until after she woke up an hour later. But she slept and eventually I just had her in my lap while trying not to fall off the ball. It was cool. Her other aunty passes her off as soon as she starts to wiggle. Oh and this time, I got to use the pacifier when she initally woke up and then got her to rest for another half hour while in the rocking chair. And this was during her peak "fussy time" of the day! Despite her crying, she's incredibly adorable.

I LOVE Goodnight Moon!!! It was my fave as a little baby according to my mom. I also have the anniversary edition that talks about how it was developed and other info. I also have it in french...okay, I'm obsessed with the book. I think kid's books are deceptively simple - simple to read but difficult to come up with a new concept.

Payton will indeed take a pacifier...she'll also take a shoulder, a finger, and probably anything else you stick in her mouth except when what she really wants is food. I love watching my brother hold her while she sleeps on his chest - so adorable!

The three or four times we tried a pacifier with Altoid, she spit it out every time.

She's teething right now(her two middle bottom teeth have broken through, and the top ones seem to be next), will chew on anything.

So how are those fingers holding up, Dad? Inquiring minds want to know... :)

MMD@B, aint it the truth - despite the crying and fussing, they are adorable.
And dads with babies is a whole new level of heartwarming. <mushy icon>.

GC - so long as the fingerprint side is tooth-side, fingers are fine. Reverse em and it gets painful. Last night Altoid worked my thumb for about 10 min before she fell asleep. That expected top tooth was against my nail and she was pushing hard.

Selma, Altoid likes being held by her thighs. It keeps her hands free too!

Fingers holding up just fine. She bites hard enough that she'll probably start leaving teeth marks once she gets some upper teeth in, though.

Thanks! I'm actually the little kangaroo's aunty. She loves bouncing (can you see that bit o yoga ball poking out from my bum?) so I can't wait until she's big enough for the jumper she has - that should be fun to watch!

My mother sang a lullaby to me as a baby and small
child, and I would love to find the words to it. The
only words I can remember are:

Do you want the moon to play with
And the stars to run away with?
They'll come if you don't cry.
So, lulla-lulla-lulla-lulla-bye-bye . . .

It's the most beautiful lullaby I've ever heard. I
remember the melody very well, just not all the words.
Lliam.
