Dreams of the Solstice
21st December 2004

And all about me, hush and chill, the white world languorously breathesSummer golden hues rest amongst the fairy folk as winter white bequeathsTo the heirs of this untarnished sight, fair darkness in the tones of blueEdged with gilt laden, softest flakes, silver glitter sparkling, born anewSee in all solicitude how the wind kisses the frost and hoary ice tops singOf wonders to be found betwixt summer glory and virginal, blushing springAnd I alone, stand beneath heavens firmament, my solitary soliloquy in aweSpoken, praises the grace of such a scene as this, from Gods hand, no flawSacred is the moment in which man stands to gaze upon the fields of blue -whiteEndless landscape bathed in crystal fairy waltzes as the season dances in grey lightEthereal is the instant prolonged by my good pleasure, in which I bathe my soul

In the winter of 1819 the winds blew fierce and chill
Yet pheasants had been taken, a blessed winters kill

Dark venison roasted, the pies with raisins ladled high
Sat upon the platters, the snow fell from God’s white sky

The fires had been stoked till roaring flames burst up
As dogs and man all made merry and prepared to sup

The mistress of the place had skirts of velvet green and red
And snows fell e’er quiet long after all had happily fed

Never was such happiness caught in such a sombre place
Though now it be but a whisper, gone without a trace

Move softly as you wander about the ruins of castles old
For the times which once passed in their walls are told

In echoes and in whispers though the mildew now soft rests
Upon the halls of such sweet abodes which time deftly tests

It was the winter of 1819.

Tis an Odd Age.
================
Is love of culture, national identity now a sin, a thing to be ridiculed, mocked in insolence?And those who cling to loyalty presumed guilty though in all they protest in innocence?Tis an odd time we live in and I have no doubt history shall mark it strange as well.For tis heretical to note that in the same manner as which once great Rome fell.So follow nations now, softly treading on her paths, no sounds of mourning made.As the culture and traditions of each land now rest in peril and in the mists do fade.Those who wonder as the borders of each gem do open wide as though they never were.Are asked to keep their bewilderment a silent moan, their sorrow now demure.

When was that last poem written, lliam? It has curiosly modern sentiments, though written in an archaic style.

Hang the politically incorrect holly
24th December 2004

Echoes of a past, laced with fairy tales
Come to mind, each year, it never fails
At this dear time when we truly recall
Who and what we were and are, all in all

I see the holly hanging over lovers sweet
You see the elves running on golden feet
And Santa Clause is in each child’s dreams
As reindeer glitter in silver bell teams

Echoes of a past, laced with fairy tales
Don’t tell me it’s gone, as soft and frail
As the dream of a people. I still can hear
The sounds of Christmas past, now near

So I will hang the holly, I will raise a tree
I will celebrate, I know, if you try, you can see
The dreams of our people, fairy tales grand
Echo right now, through the core of our land.

A Green Lit Fairy
22nd December 2004
====================

An emerald lit fairy flittered blithely upon the wood pond edgeThe hue of fresh, young leaves glowed as if a moving pledgeTo shield the creature from the world and now to hide her wellFor the Oak tree was her banner and had caught her as she fellInto a world of bustling men, this dimension of such harsh lightOf noise and pale dimensions from which she fled into the nightThere to hide in pen lit poetry and verse the fairy softly coweredAs beneath the ink blue skies which silver stars did nightly showerShe wove her chants and ballads in a crooning lullaby of sorrowOnly to tremble at the arrival of each piercing, grating morrowFor fairies do not comprehend the need for struggle and for powerWithin grace and peace and verse they dwell, this the fairy bower

And on the First Day of the Year
1st January 2005
===============
A jaunty Little New Year’s song for you good people! I can't send the tune so you'd best make it up on your own! Good Cheer to you! And on this first day of the year I bring to you good people, cheer Your poets shall sharpen quills anew Preparing to encourage you As you all stand and with great pride Spread the message far and wide We are proud of who we are For we have come so very far Though the road be long and steep Our people’s pride we long shall keep! So bundle up against the cold And tell one another tales of old You may think this act is very small It is not so very small at all! For you in every way each day Make a statement which does say "I live my life and thusly show By my good deeds the seeds I sow My pride in heritage and land Is built upon the earth, not sand My history, my nation and my race Have every reason to take their placeWithin my heart and proudly so So tis into the New Year I merrily go! And no cause have I to be ashamed Of patriotism thusly named For those who jeer and mock at it I blithely watch as they pitch a fit! I see no cause to bow my head I am very proud to be, instead Proud of my people and with joy in tow I merrily, merrily into the New Year go!

Our Very blood
3rd January 2005
================

Viking tales and Celtic gods sigh See them in the mists, heads held high Battles fought and lovers long dead Stand on every hill, each homestead You can see them if you will, but try We must not let our world fade and die Camelot is here for those who will see Our very life blood is steeped in history.

Lliam, thanks for sharing your poems.
I enjoy the juxtiposition of archaic speach patterns, formal poetical patterns and modern cant ("pitch a fit" etc).
