Please take a moment in prayer or meditation for the victims of this most awful disaster.

Dear Lord,
I can become so fond of people,
Particularly if they share with me
the love of you.
It is such a joyous thing in daily life,
and I know it is you who allows this comfort
and help, and I thank you.
But I know too that life changes.
People and then perhaps they have to go away again, not necessarily far but far enough
not to be about as before in one's daily life.
And it can happen the other way round.
Often, I can hardly bear it.
Lord,
when it has to happen,
help me to bear it.
Amen.

In Time of Danger.
===================
O God, Who knowest us to be set in the midst of such great perils, that, by reason of the weakness of our nature, we cannot stand upright, grant us such health of mind and body, that those evils which we suffer for our sins we may overcome through Thine assistance. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

There is a big drive for donations here, too. A lot of companies are getting involved, as is the Govt. The Sri Lankan cricket team has cancelled its tour and gone home to do what they can.

There are still about 230 NZers unaccounted for. If they're all dead, it will be our second-worst disaster, I think, behind the Erebus plane crash of 1979, when 257 died.

Apparently it's Norway's biggest disaster since the Nazi occupation, and it wasn't even in their country.

NZers are calling in as they realise that people are worried about them. We're not people who rush to the nearest official when there's a bit of trouble around, and many had simply gone ahead with their travels.

Our prospective death toll is now in single digits.

Is it possible for a tsunami to wipe out a whole entire country like United States? Can a tsunami really be that big?

Naah. No way. Might swamp whichever coast it first encountered but the whole country is pretty wide. Got some high spots, too.

It would be a huge local disaster wherever it hit, might do more damage than Katrina did, but there's no way it could entirely cross the continent.
