Best Lord of the Rings Audio CD set???

Postby jedilane » Wed Jan 05, 2005 3:41 pm

I'm looking to by an audio version of the Lord of the Rings books on CD. Anybody have a suggestion who has recorded the best version? I've seen a few different ones on Amazon, but don't have any idea which to pick.

Any help would be great!

I have an alternate suggestion - one of the guys here at work rips the sound track from the movie DVDs; it makes a superior audio book. You get professional actors, the sound track, and the movie plays on the inside of your forehead.

Of course, in exchange, you get a (very) edited version of the book. In my view, this improves Tolkien.

And it still runs far too long!

I can't imagine getting the DVDs with all those deleted scenes added in.

Selma, we seem to be of an unusual like mind: We enjoy Heinlein, and don't enjoy Tolkien.

I don't know, barfle, I like Tolkien's characters, and his stories. I just think he improves with some editing - sort of like Victorian novelists.

I have the full set of the LOTR DVDs now; theatrical releases and expanded versions both of all three movies. The expanded versions flow better than the theatrical releases and are better movies - but I still enjoy having the "pause" button because they are really, really long.

Of course we both like Heinlein. How could anybody not?

Hi Selma, you got those DVDs seperately, right, not a box set of all three?

Yup. Bought 'em as individual movies, six times. Have never seen a box set of the entire trilogy.

LOTR DVD Box Set

Now you have. :p

Of course, they haven't given a release date yet, but it's coming. And for us folks that bought them as they were released individually, they are offering the Box Set case to store all 3 special editions in (the only difference between the box set and what we already have) for free with proof's of purchase.

Buy a large popcorn, a large lemonade, wear a Depends, and go see it.
