TM,

B.Com plays the Janacek Sinfonietta infrequenlty. I'm going to have to dig through my old vinyl collection and see what I can find to request. There's some good stuff in there that I haven't heard in a dozen or more years.

Barfle, would you listen to the Florence Foster Jenkins rendition of the Revenge Aria?

FFJ does for The Revenge Aria what Roseanne Barr did for the National Anthem.

Here are a few good obscure requests!

Walter Piston - The Incredible Flutist
Olivier Messiaen - Quartet for the End of Time
Alexander Scriabin - Piano Sonata #3
Virgil Thomson - The Plow That Broke The Plains
Roger Sessions - Black Maskers Suite

Virgil Thomson was one of the guest speakers at my High School Graduation.

I heard the "Nutcracker" Suite twice in one day a month or two ago!

I wonder if they'll play the Dukas "Villanelle." I've never heard it in its entirety. It was on the repertoire list for Music History class listening tests junior year, and something had gone wrong with the recording...a minute or two into the piece, it suddenly changed to static. So much for that one. I believe that was while we were studying Obscure* French Composers. Maybe I should request something by Lalo, Chausson, Gounod, Delibes, D'Indy...

*Well, more obscure than others.

Hi Lioness,

Good luck bucking that monkey off your back, it's one of the nicest things you can do for yourself, IMNSHO. :)

If this might provide any inspiration, my father said he started smoking when he was 12, and very soon worked himself up to 4 1/2 packs of Luckies a day. When he was 58, his doctor told him to quit smoking because of his heart trouble(just reporting here, not interpreting). He quit cold turkey, and never smoked another cigarette the rest of his life(died at 71 of cancer). I remember watching him play pinochle with my three brothers-in-law, who all continued to smoke like freight trains, and he would occasionally say, "You know, I sometimes go as long as 15 seconds without thinking about a cigarette." I don't recall him exhibiting any other manifestation of stress or anxiety about quitting. To me it was a huge example of his strength of will.

On the other hand, if you do end up clawing someone's eyes out, at least it's for good cause.

:D

Good luck!
